Series 3 Chassis Swap - a slow start

Steering arms cleaned off and painted, all new ball joints fitted, new nuts bolts and washers on the clamps, all with loadsa copper-slip. Now stowed in the back of the Blue Beastie. A little panel bashing done on the bonnet, and more paint slapped on the frame. Watching a 2.5 petrol engine on...

Series 3 Chassis Swap - a slow start

Evening all, Further to my thread about the chassis swap and asking for info on specialists, a decision has been made.... Thanks to eBay, a Richards galvanised chassis has been bought and is ready to go with refurbed axles and parabolic springs already fitted (though need to check the quality...

Some poor sods pride and joy

Utter, utter hunts. Small consolation but it looks like it was taken apart rather than ripped/cut apart. The owner might get enough back to be able to rebuild. Feel for the farmer too, he has lost a lot of his crop there.

Series 3 Chassis Swap - specialist recommendations?

It's been pretty well looked after, so far everything has come undone with relative ease apart from the steering relay. It's a bit of a bitsa though, so it's probably been apart once or twice! The chassis would probably be savable by someone with the enthusiasm, time and equipment. It's rotten...

Series 3 Chassis Swap - specialist recommendations?

I've thought about this. But I think the amount of work needed to chop it out outweighs the cost of a new one. If I had plenty of time and no cash I would probably get it out, but I think the more sensible solution at the mo is to just have a new one. Plus, the old rolling chassis might be worth...

Series 3 Chassis Swap - specialist recommendations?

Afternoon all, A decision has been made!! Dad and I managed to get a rolling chassis off Ebay. Richards galvanised chassis with parabolics and rebuilt axles, repainted wheels already fitted up. The seller is going to deliver it to our door in the week. Meanwhile, a mate of mine who has had...

Series 3 Chassis Swap - specialist recommendations?

Unfortunately doing it on the drive isn't an option. There just isn't the space for any parts when they are between chassis, and although I have a few of my tools from my work toolbox, most of it is in storage 200 miles away until I can find another job. (Covid :() Plus no engine crane or...

Series 3 Chassis Swap - specialist recommendations?

Thanks for the info, very much appreciated. I know that with all old vehicles, trying to get a price is like finding the length of a piece of string. When we asked around, we asked for the best possible, if nothing goes wrong and nothing needs replacing, and the worst possible if everything...

Series 3 Chassis Swap - specialist recommendations?

Yup they do a lot of them, it seems to be their bread and butter (or so the website says) It's Safari Engineering in Eversley. Chassis are about £2.5k though aren't they, unless I'm missing something?

Series 3 Chassis Swap - specialist recommendations?

Series 3 chassis swap... now say it again after a few pints!! Evening all, Series Landy Newby here. Dad and I bought a 2a/3 bitsa a few years ago. Short wheelbase with a covered back with windows (don't know the correct term for this, apologies!) It was pretty good, but with our lack of...

We did the front end ourselves, but having had a feel around at the back, its very crunchy and crusty.

    Newcomer with a bitsa project

Hi folks, thanks for the warm welcome! Unfortunately it looks like the log book/identity swap was carried on out mine in the past :( I will find a few piccies and put them up - they're not very flattering though! Preparing for having the chassis swap by making sure things undo and come apart...

    Newcomer with a bitsa project

Morning all, Pete here, with a bit of a bitsa project. 90% Series 3 with a smattering of 2a here and there. Picked it up 4 years ago and didn't do enough research at the time to spot that it really shouldn't have the 2a registration and log book. Realising later that Dad and I had bought...
