Checked with GPS, speedo is bang on the exact speed. Checked distance with GPS and 39 GPS miles were 37 miles on the odometer. Basically the roofrack even unladen was losing me 25% efficiency mainly used on 30/40 mph roads. It feels a bit nippier too!

Just an update (late i know!) Had a replacement gearbox and everything was fine, the hi/low problem was just lack of use. All the clunks i had when accelerating disappeared as well, it was the gearbox, worn out. Fitted a cross drilled gear as well as the old shaft was rusty as hell.
