But I thought I'd finally add an avatar photo of the old girl. She is called Lou, from Loo hoo ( sic) which is what the Chinese call Land rovers apparently it means "road tiger"! She didn't look like this 3 years ago....

    Bugger to start......

That sounds like a good idea, though I did try priming it with the lift pump, but no joy, can't hurt to try that though.

    Bugger to start......

Hi folks, I rebuilt my series III a few years back, including a recon 2.5 TD engine, and an overhauled injector pump. Recently, it has been a real problem to start. Taking about 3 attempts of really cranking the starter, and then it will start on the third go. I've checked the glow plugs...

2.25 exhaust on 2.5 TD Series III

Hi Folks, Just a thought. When I rebuilt my series III, I rebuilt and put in a 2.5TD engine my mate had lying about. With all the other calls on my cash during the project I just welded the down pipe from the manifold onto the smaller bore existing 2.25 exhaust. I'm wondering what loss of...

    Leaky fuel solenoid

HI folks and thanks for he replies. No washer in the usual sense, but there is an o ring. Should there be a washer? is it a copper compression washer? or is there a part number for the o ring? I'll pull off the PTFE tape, and also check for burrs. Cheers as ever.

Hi folks, Can anyone cast any light on this problem. A mate and I have rebuilt a series 3 with a 19 j engine ( rebored etc). It has developed starting problems. I give it 20 seconds of heat , it cranks over well, but it will not start without plenty of cranking, and some throttle. It then...

Trying not to coo my 19j, any tips?

Hi folks the stat opns fine. A theory. 19j was a rebored 12j , so thinner walls and a strapped on turbo perhaps it will run hot, especially without a viscous fan I am trying Evans waterless coolant. So far, a couple of days, no overheating problems and no overpressure problems either. I'll...

Hi folks, Last year i bought a pup on a fleabay, a series III with a 12 J engine, which as it transpired was on its way out, but not before i had spent a lot of time on it including a new radiator. That engine croaked, a mate had a 19 J so we decided to rebuild that ( head skimmed new pots...

What a clot I am. having been working with a mate to rebuild a 19 j engine to put in my series III. Putting the finishing touches to the engine today after the install when I overtightened the pipe on the back of the fuel pump to the turbo ( waste gate I think) ,and cracked a small lump off the...

    19J cone filter

I've fitted a 19j engine to a series 3. I fitted the 90 expansion tank, which left no room for the old air filter, hence the air cone. any further suggestions are very welcome!
