Have tried these kits, as have other people I know. All have failed. The cables (stainless steel) are great, the adhesive seems to be the weak link. I found a push bike brake/gear cable £3, and a solderless nipple, pennies, worked better.
Ive tried the cable kit that means glueing the nipple in place on 2 occasions. Both have failed within days. Th efirst I put down as being my fault, didnt clean the cable, let the adhesive set long enough or whatever, so I tried again with the same result.
The upshot is I wouldnt waste my...
There is one more thing to consider. Retrospective fitting of HID units into 'old' style headlights means the vehicle no longer complies with Construction and Use legislation, thus leaving you open to the possibility of prosecution from the good old boys in blue....
Just a thought...
quite agree, Kwik Fit are ****e, but hey.
As for actually fixing the problem, this works:
Remove brake drum and look at the lever on the bottom of the shoe where the cable attaches. This is the bit that usually sticks. Remove and use a hammer and drift to hit the top of the rivet(pivot)...
Standard size is 225/55/17 on a FL. Any higher profile and/or width and you run the risk of fouling the shocks.
Hope you dont intend fitting all terrain/mud tyres as you can't buy them in 17" to fit a FL. Road tyres only.
Try painting a line on the front and rear prop, either side of the VCU. Go for a drive and check the line. If the 2 parts of the line no longer line up, then the VCU is not seized.
Advantage- Last longer than rubber and are slightly stiffer. I have been replacing worn bushes with the poly type and have noticed a slightly less 'wallowy' ride.
Suspension bushes are basically the same to replace as if using rubber.
Disadvantages- Slightly more expensive...
Probably find that the offset on your rim is different from the 17 to take these things into account. A greater offset has the same effect as adding wheel spacers. Not sure without looking- might even have different shocks. Have offered up the 235/65/17 on mine and they dont fit.
Is it a FL1...
The 235/65/17 tyres will foul the coil over shock as the overall diameter of this tyre is approx 6cm taller, and 1cm wider than the standard 225/55/17 fitment by Landrover.
Basically you will need to stick to the standard 225/55/17 fitment, unless you fit wheel spacers, and depending on th etyre...
If you go for larger wheels i.e 17 or 18 inch, then you are limiting your tyre choice- with NO off road or all terrain options available to fit the Gaylander above 16 inch, and boy have I looked! (Check out the prices as well).
You will also REDUCE the tyre profile (wall height) if you go for a...
Check the front anto roll bar drop links- they are located behind the shock absorber and have ball joints at either end. This is a common fault. If you look at the condition of the gaiters on the link it will give you a clue as to their condition.
Jacking up the vehicle and removing the wheel...
Apologies if this has been covered already, but I have searched and couldn't find an answer...
I have 225/55/17 Synchrones fitted at the minute- will 235/65/17 fit as a replacement. I know they are wider and slightly higher, but does anyone know if they can be shoe horned onto a standard (not...
The noise could be- and this is with all Freelanders- the viscous coupling causes drag on the drive train when reversing on full lock, and may sound like tyres rubbing. It is more likely the tyres scrubbing as you move the vehicle.
I just cut a small piece of the mesh, bent it out of the way and hey presto- access to the switch. Fold mesh back into place and you can't tell. No one looks at it anyway...
After finding that the front bush on the rear diff is once again shagged, have found a supplier of polyurethane replacements.
You have to remove the original rubber bush from the aluminium casing (bit of a pig), then repalce it with the poly bush.
Supplier is Floflex Polyurethane Ltd.
Bushes are...
Could be the rear subframe mountings- the captive nuts sometimes break loose. Have you checked the rear diff mounting bushes (usually the front one)?
Try a search on this forum and you should gets the usual results.
This might have already been covered, but couldn't find owt, so...
When turning a tight slow right turn (1st or 2nd gear usually) there seems to be a bit of a vibration from around the centre to the front of the gaylander. Thought about VCU/prop bearings? Am checking all mountings & bushes...
For what its worth, I know I have no problems with turbo etc. on my TD4 (problems elsewhere maybe....) but I can hear tthe turbo whistle, especially with the drivers window down. Same on others I have driven, so might not be a problem?
Don't always work. Good quality cable, hit and miss with glue. One door fixed and still fixed, other only lasted day or so and adhesive gave up ghost. Plastic cable guides broke as well. New regulator please....
