    Brake Pad Shims

I wasn't trying to save money, was just ignorance on my part, didn't think they were that important. I was just wondering what their purpose is? I can't see them listed on the paddocks website either?

    Brake Pad Shims

Hi Guys, Started changing my brake pads last night, did the first side, and noticed there were shims on the pads. My new Mintex ones didn't have the shims, and I thought nothing of it so just chucked them on. Went to do the other side and realised the calliper was knackered, so gave up for...

I'm well aware of that, but it remains fairly constant temperatures we get in this country. Absolute zero is -273 degrees centigrade after all.

The next sentence agreed with what you say above, the irrelevance comment was aimed at disputing the fact that electrocution cannot occur when playing with a mains supply.

Yes you're correct, resistance is a constant, obeying ohm's law in an ohmic conductor such as the copper wires. Had my head in a dissertation for the last 3 weeks to I've been a bit frazzled lol

What MPG does your 300TDI yield?

28 mpg around town, between 30-32 mix of A/B roads, 34-35 on a motorway run.

It's irrelevant whether the person is grounded or not, if you touch the live a neutral pins in a socket, you provide a dead short, hence the electrocution. I agree however, that if you wire a land rover to mains, and touched the body of the vehicle, the amount of current that you would conduct...

    ##stolen## defender td5 galv!!!

That max current is more than enough to kill a person. For example, take the average power shower, which operates at about 9kW. Its operating current at 230V will be around 40A. Your telling me that an AC supply, which can clearly supply that amount of current, cant produce a current which is...

When you receive an electric shock, you are the load in the circuit. The current flow will depend on several factors, including your level of hydration at the time. It's stupid to assume that such a shock can't kill you, and even more ridiculous to give such advice on a public forum. You...

    Whining noise

First thing I'd be doing would be to double check he's got the oil levels correct, I don't think much of that old oil muffling the noise theory. Check the levels and let us know how you get on. HTH, Lew

Has the cambelt been changed recently? Just wondering if your timing is ok.

    lumpy tick over

Right so its not that. When you cleaned the sedimenter, did you tighten it up enough? When I did mine, I didn't tighten it up enough and had a very lumpy idle as a result due to it sucking air. HTH, Lew

    lumpy tick over

Put a direct 12v feed from the battery to the solenoid and try starting again, you may have an issue with the spider. My friend had the same problem with the starting, would fire but not start. Try this and let us know how you get on. HTH, Lew

    looking 4 a Disco

The shogun is a fantastic tow vehicle, never failed to pull anything we threw at it, and was a lot more stable than the disco (which is also a really good tow car I hasten to add!). Trouble with the shogun, is that although they are very reliable, when they do go wrong parts aren't cheap. The...

    Oops

Whenever I've taken mine off, I've just undone the two large 17mm bolts that secure the bumper to the brackets at the back of the chassis, the whole bumper just slides off then.

    gearbox oil

I second that, use MTF94 in the gearbox. Carlube do one for a reasonable price, and Millers XSS 10w40 also meets the correct spec. HTH, Lew

Surely if the chassis is built to exactly the same specification as the original, then this is classed as a repair rather than an alteration?
