Crap heaters, low engine temp and new 'stat

When I bought my petrol series 3 the seller told me that the previous owner to him used to use a grille blind to stop air getting to the rad and over cooling the engine. I thought this to be a bit strange when our winters are never really as cold as countries where these radiator blinds...

    V8 Series 3

My 2.25 petrol is shocking on fuel. Id feel alot better about using so much fuel if it sounded like a V8  I'm a mechanic so doing a swap wouldn't worry me but I thought I'd ask on here as to what you lot think of the swap. Surely mpg can't be affected too much, its near enough...

mounting axles the other side of the leafs

Is this do-able? Unbolting the axle from the leaf springs and simply mounting it the otherside of the springs for a few inches of increased height. I've heard of it done on things like the Suzuki SJs but was wondering if there was any reason it can't be done. Thanks, Adam

New landy owner, fuel tank Q

Hey I'm Adam and yesterday I drove this series 3 200 miles home, What an adventure! They really aren't suited to motorways are they! Luckily for me I've owned a good few classics so was able to adapt to the lack of brakes and wandering steering with ease :p When I filled up with petrol...
