    2011 Defender... Wow!!

    I've had a look at a TD5 torque curve and it looks like it should have heaps of low-end torque - I must drive one to see where all these comments about it being gutless at low revs are coming from. I don't think the Tdci is gutless at low revs. I idled up one of the steeper streets in the city...

    2011 Defender... Wow!!

    I found in the Tdci that I drove that there was a moment of hesitation when I pressed the throttle before the engine reacted. Perhaps this is caused by a similar thing - probably easily fixed by a specialist.

    Discovery Alloys?

    I apologise for not updating this thread. I had thought that the alloy wheels fitted, but when I went to fully tighten the wheel nuts I found that they dit not sit all the way on at the front of the vehicle. They would only have required a small amount of grinding, but as you can see from my...

    2011 Defender... Wow!!

    All Land Rovers fitted with low range gearboxes (and even some without) are great off-road. You should know that :doh:

    Question for Td5/300Tdi owners;

    I certainly wouldn't want to go faster than 65mph in my old Ninety. The steering is too vague - the vehicle would be wandering across the other lanes!

    Question for Td5/300Tdi owners;

    Add an overdrive to the Td5 gearbox and with the standard transfer box you get 60mph at only 1760rpm, and 70mph at around 2000rpm. Do you have any roads in England where you can drive faster than 60mph?

    Question for Td5/300Tdi owners;

    Read my post again: I did not say that 6th is 20% higher than the Td5 5th gear, that was what Land Rover said in their advertising (and they were evidently referring to the final ratio with transfer boxes taken into account. The claim of 20% adds up when you do the math). I have just found a...

    Question for Td5/300Tdi owners;

    Thanks GINGE, and to the others who have replied. Your figure of about 2200rpm could be correct judging from what I have found on this website: Land Rover gear ratios I can't verify that the info on the site is accurate, but it matches other websites with gear ratios listed. According to...

    Question for Td5/300Tdi owners;

    I have 235/85 R16s on my Ninety - but my question relates to newer Defenders (300Tdis and Td5s). I would likely stick with 235/85s if I got a newer Defender as I find they perform well in all driving conditions I have come across.

    Question for Td5/300Tdi owners;

    Hello owners of Td5s/300Tdis. You may have seen my rave about the new Defenders. One of the things I really liked was the motorway performance. 2000rpm at 100km'h in 6th gear was just right. But it did make me think, if you are going any faster, then you might start feeling like you want a 7th...

    2011 Defender... Wow!!

    am on a bit of a high still: yesterday I took a 2011 Defender 90 for a test drive. It had only done 29,000kms so was like new. This was the first Defender I had ever driven (remember I drive a Ninety - pre-Defender) and it was a revelation! The new interior seemed solid and well screwed...

    Pumkins Flex caught on camera!

    The current ones look good to me - nicely in proportion to the vehicle.

    My 110 Build thread so far.. (Very Pic Heavy)

    Interesting thread. I got mighty confused when there were all those pictures of another 110 in the middle - thought you had bought another one at first! My only thought: if you are going to be doing a lot of off-roading, surely matt black is the worst possible colour you could paint your wagon?

    Galvanizing Wheel Rims

    I got my rims zinc-arc sprayed (which is a type of galvanising). If you take this option then there is no risk of warping, and so far I am very happy with the result. I got the rims painted by the same people that did the zinc arc spraying as they knew exactly which paints and primers would work...

    So, been to look at buying my first 90...

    I don't know a great deal about Waxoyl myself, but from what I've read on this forum it can pay to be wary of thick layers of it as if a rusty chassis is waxoyled then it can continue to rust underneath. Just a thought.

    Diff Guard Fitted: Pics

    I just had a proper look at the photo of the guard - even in the photo you can see the rough finish of the galvanising under the paint:p

    No, it is not holed, the underseal has just flaked off from the area around the dent.

    Build / restoration / project section

    You can see how the forum could get over complicated though if this route was taken. I personally don't mind having the rebuilds and projects in the same section as the rest of the Defender threads as it means you can read through a whole range of different topics including the projects in the...
