What else should I get galvanized?

Are the wheel arch liners steel on newer Defenders? I could swear they are aluminium on my Ninety: they aren't painted or anything and they don't rust. Though I should add that I don't have any liners in the rear mudguards.

    refurbish 1988 110 County wheels

Don't get those; the dreaded 8 spoke white wheels - they look awful! Stick with the originals and get them refurbished, much nicer ;)

    Cubby Box

Spacers may simply be to raise the back of the cubby box and make it level since the seat box slopes downwards towards the back. That would explain why there are only two of them.

    What makes the ultimate Defender?

    1) Galvanised Chassis 2) Galvanised bulkhead 3) galvanised cappings :) 4) Spare wheel carrier 5) Decent AT or MT tyres I'm going to cheat and add one more: 6) A Land Rover turbo diesel motor (200tdi, 300tdi, Td5)

    RAMBIRKETT 90 Tinkering Thread

Fantastic thread - your Defender looks very tidy and capable without going over the top. A nice subtle design theme. One question: did you get your rock sliders galvanised? If not it might be worth considering as the paint will get taken off the first time you scrape any rocks and you might get...

    Newbie help!

If you want a Ninety (they do look the best ;)) then you can get these seats from exmoor trim that are approved for use for children (see link below). They are very dear though! Exmoor also has other less expensive forward facing high-back rear seats if you have a look at their website...

    Is there another way

You could weld a piece of bar to the nut to get some leverage?

    Going back to the wolves

Wolf rims look good, but when are you going to put on some front wheel arch trims? I wish you'd paint your bumper and wheel arches black - the blue annoys me for some reason :D

    First ever Landy

No need to worry - adding weights to wheels to balance them is a very normal thing. My new rims are covered in them! The weights could be there due to warping of the rim, but I suspect it is due to slight variations in the tyres. Being a Defender, the tyres are quite tall with big sidewalls so...

    Odometer going too fast

Thanks Station House, I will have a look at that.

    Odometer going too fast

I will try and do some more accurate testing with the trip meter on my Ninety to see if I can get a more exact percentage of how far out the odometer is. I forgot to mention earlier that my speedo ticks back and forth with the ticking motion getting smaller and faster as the speed rises. Could...

    Odometer going too fast

Standard on old Ninety's was 205/16 I believe, which is a significantly smaller diameter than any 235 85 R16 you will find. I do not think my larger than stock tyres are the cause of the problem to be honest. They should cause the odometer to go up too slowly if anything.

    Odometer going too fast

Is the speedo linked to the odometer? If it was meant to read 5km'h too fast and it the two were linked then you would expect that there would be no problem wiith the odometer as it would be calibrated to take this into account.

    Odometer going too fast

I have had some suspicions for a while that my odometer is racking up kilometres too fast on my 1986 Ninety. I checked properly yesterday and found that is it reading about 10% further than I had actually driven. Obviously this is not ideal as it mucks up some of the servicing schedules for the...

    r380 in my defender

Discovery gearboxes have the gear lever in a different position which is not ideal in a Defender. There may be kits available to put in a Defender style gear lever but I am not sure where you can get them and how much work is involved in adapting them. Also, if the new engine and gearbox both...
