What do you love your Freelander?

Love mine too, 1999 L diesel engine stationwagon. Great fuel economy and actually it doesn't feel too slow - lots of low end torque. I probably like it more because it needs some pampering and I can buy tools to fix things. Only had it since January but am very pleased - comfy, excellent road...

Opportunity for setting up specialist garages?

Thanks. I think it is plausible but like you it is not for me - I have too many other things on the go at the moment. But I would certainly be an interested client!

Opportunity for setting up specialist garages?

It struck me as I was digging the soil to put my potatoes in that now the ABS checks are upgraded as part of the MOT (CT here in France) that sooner or later someone will come up with an idea of setting up a chain of garages specialising in ABS diagnostics, servicing and repair across all...

New VCU in the nick of time I think…

With mine it was vibaration free afterwards - I had some vibrations beyond about 90kph before the change (that only I, the driver seemed to notice!) but after changing the VCU and bearings it was vibration free - probably the bearings made the difference. However, on turning tight corners and...

    Dashboard Warning Lights

Hope you get it sorted soon - keeping a log on all the 3 amigo threads as mine will need doing before the next MOT. Like you, I have no lights at present....

Freelander 3 amigos using new hawkeye

So that is on the OSF as the Hawkeye indicated? Not sure about a fix - I am afraid this is all new to me. I am following you as I know I will be going the Hawkeye route myself before the next MOT. Mine's a 1999 L series so probably identical to yours. I really like the engines.

Freelander 3 amigos using new hawkeye

I guess historical means historical - seeing as you replaced the sensors anyway? It may have just needed resetting. The proof will be in the driving and the lights staying off! Presumably they come on briefly when you turn the ignition on? Good to know the Hawkeye was able to read your ABS...

    Rear Diff/Drive Shafts

I was going to suggest front diff mount but you say you have changed one of the mounts - which one?

What have you done to your Freelander today

Fitted the new top intercooler hose. Took it for a spin and the thing blew off! Easy to put back on and tighten up and actually I was impressed at the fact there was enough pressure in there to blow it off. Runs sweetly now with plenty of low end grunt. Also tried to refit the rear door seal...

    Can i install IRD from 2.5l v6 in a 1.8l freelander?

Sorry in case people are wondering I have not done a conversion - I have two cars - a Freelander 1 Di and a Toyota Celica Gen 5. Just wanted to let people know about the Toyota engines.

    Can i install IRD from 2.5l v6 in a 1.8l freelander?

Toyota 7aFE is used in the old Celicas (Gen 6) and possisbly others (Corolla?) - not a high performance engine 8v SOHC but very reliable and excellent on economy (most Celicas come with the 2.0 16v DOHC 3GSE engine). I have a Celica Gen 5 with the 3GSE which is what they put in the RAV 4 at the...

Ok we all need to read what has gone before ... thanks we need reminding we are not the first. Forums are like that - you just have a great idea and post it up. Good combined knowledge base, this site.

I read on another forum that the changes were brought in in 2012 but weren't being made enforcebale until 2013 ........ but I cant find that source now.

    Dashboard Warning Lights

I think the new MOT regs came in 1 January - when did you buy the car? I am not in the UK either (France permanently) and I am sure this warning light test addition is Europe wide in which case I will have the same problem as you when I need my next Controle Technique - thankfully every 2 years...

    Cheaper Hawkeye

When you finally get one I'd be interested in how useful you find it as I may splash out on one as well. I don't know how advanced the diagnostic technology was on the older freelanders?

    Freelander vibration

I did the VCU with the support bearings already fitted (from Bells) a couple of weekends ago. I also did the front diff mount at the same time. If it wasn't for the rain arriving it would have been done (from scratch) in a long morning and short afternoon - I am not a seasoned mechanic and...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Taped up the intercooler hose wth gaffer tape and ordered a new one. With postage 35 euros ordered here in France or from UK with postage 21 euros. Spares are stupidly expensive here.
