vibration - not VCU mounts update

Thanks - but I fitted a refurb VCU and bearings a year ago which seem to be fine. This new problem started 8k miles after these had been fitted. Hence the need to seek out other causes - which I think I have found, the rear UJ. My quesion is about how easy is this to diy replace.

vibration - not VCU mounts update

Well I had another look underneath this afternoon afer speaking to Bells (VCU and bearings came from them a year ago) and was told the cause of vibration was unlikely to be the carrier bearings as they tend to get noisy and vibrate at all speeds when worn. I get vibration 50 mph plus and then...

    Heating fan

Check the wiring to the fan as well - I had a bad connection which was giving me intermittent running on all speeds Gareth

    vcu bearings lifetime

Hello everyone Ok I was able to have a crawl around today underneath as the sun was shining! The rear two diff mountings are probably due for replacement and I will get those done in the next few weeks. Probably not the cause of the vibratons though. The UJs on the prop are all solid but...

    vcu bearings lifetime

Hello Good to have a fellow Landy person not too far away ... My comment about the rain and UJ's was literally about the climate around me - and no - no rain to cause any damage (but stupidly warm temeratures when last year at this time it was snowing -also unusual). I agree Franch news is...

Hmm. OK - will bear that in mind if I can't find the problem elsewhere. Thanks Gareth

    vcu bearings lifetime

Thnks guys - more things to explore. Thankfully I don't have the rain here (south of France) that I am hearing about back in the Uk - sounds truly dreadful. But it is worth checking the joints all the same. Wheels are my number one check it seems. I will report back after the weekend.

    vcu bearings lifetime

Thanks everyone. I thought the Bells bearings would probably last longer than this so I need to look elsewhere. The tyres were all changed together and the same make so probably wear is even but I will check closely. Yes my feeling is something is out of balance too, but where to start...

    vcu bearings lifetime

Hello all After half a year of trouble free motoring and thinking how reliable these hippos are after all (too complacent by far I know) I am now trying to daignose a vibration that appears after about 50mph and gets steadily worse until about 70 then gets better again after that. I replaced...

    Heater/Air Con not working

Connections to the blower motor - that is where mine went wrong? Also I had a problem with theh air con switch going in, coming on, but then not staying 'clicked' in. Ordered a new switch. Gareth

What have you done to your Freelander today

Just giving the hippo some TLC today before the nights draw in tomorrow and the evening drives become night drives. I had an intermittent heater fan problem and AC switch that didn't always click in (worked if you wedged it with cardboard but not ideal). It turned out the fan problem was a...

    Help propshft problem

Who sourced theIRD - you or the garage? If it was the garage it should be their responsibility as their may have chosen a poor supplier. If it was you, then they have a point.

    freelander or F----- Jeep

I had a 1991 Cherokee diesel (Renault engine, same as the Espace) for four years and changed it for the Freelander this year. The jeep was far less refined than the hippo and was really falling apart when I got rid of it but it never broke down. Four wheel drive wasn't that great and it was...

Have I trashed my engine - Rover diesel

These were my questions, too but it seems a bit of the aux belt lodged itself somewhere inside the timing belt cover. First of all a ripping noise, then the battery light came on (I guessed what had happened but carried on to get off the motorway) - then suddenly I lost about half power and...

Have I trashed my engine - Rover diesel

Yes Montpellier is lovely - my son is now living there and looking for work as a photographer. Lovely ambience and lots of smilinbg people not doing very much except enjoying themselves. I haven't seen any bullet holes buit will look next time I am there - you mean the main square, presumably...

Have I trashed my engine - Rover diesel

OK we are back o the road! A price to pay .... but now I have a virtually new top end, valves, followers, lifters, belts, gaskets, etc so the engine at least should serve me well for a long time. It is a shame that the obvious fault I sought to repair after buying the car in January (VCU)...

Have I trashed my engine - Rover diesel

It is August and France stops working so things have been a little slow. The diagnosis is that there are some bent valves but nothing shattered so the engine itself is OK - just need to rebuild the top and put it all back together with new valves, lifters, belts, gasket set etc etc . Still -...
