2003 TD4 Coolant going down, oil going up...?!?!?!

Yeah stinks of diesel, then clears after 10 seconds or so like so many other people seem to be having. 106k now so she's getting on - I am thinking £100 or so to get the injectors fully tested might be a good shout. Thing is, on the other threads so many people are having the same issue as me...

2003 TD4 Coolant going down, oil going up...?!?!?!

I was struggling to tell if there was any difference, which tells me that there wasn't! Odd though, as I seem to be getting some great MPGs, lots of town driving, A-road, motorways and not having to fill up very often. Weird

2003 TD4 Coolant going down, oil going up...?!?!?!

I know i saw the one the other day that kicked off somewhat - but sh1tstorms aside, there must be a right and a wrong answer, it can't be both. Looking at these other threads though where people have the slight misfire at 2000rpm+ and greyish/white smoke, looks unlikely it in injector related...

TD4 white smoke and misfiring @ 2000 rpm

I have only just stumbled on this thread, as I am getting the same thing, as some of you may have seen in my thread that's been active the last week or so: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/2003-td4-coolant-going-down-oil-going-up.295478/page-2 Havent sent my injectors off yet, but in...

Thanks redwood - re: the oil though, that's what I'm saying, when i checked last night it was fine, whereas on Friday night it seemed much higher on the dipstick. Not a bit higher - MUCH higher. So, last night I checked after my little tinkering session, and then about 2hours later before bed to...

2003 TD4 Coolant going down, oil going up...?!?!?!

Ok so spent a bit more time on the car this evening, doing some more poking about, trial and error etc. 1) Oil level - I may have to re-name the thread. For some inexplicable reason, the oil level now appears to be back to normal (just under max), whereas last Friday evening, it seemed...

Any thoughts on my last post guys?

2003 TD4 Coolant going down, oil going up...?!?!?!

Just one final thought (I can't help me'self :) but I've seen it mentioned on other injector-related threads (mainly Disco ones granted) that the ecu may need programming depending on the codes that are present on the top of the injector? Just wondered how true that is as I'll obv need to be...

Cool thanks - had enough today so that'll be tomorrow's little task.

Thanks I think someone else mentioned that too, what would I be looking for, no difference in engine tone when the faulty injector is unplugged?

2003 TD4 Coolant going down, oil going up...?!?!?!

Last update of the day, having followed the great advice on this thread https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/fuel-rail-pressure-sensor-harness-change.154473/ I also got out today to rewire the new fuel pressure sensor harness and fit the new sensor. Turned into a bit of a long job as one of...

2003 TD4 Coolant going down, oil going up...?!?!?!

Ok it's reassembled, back together and working. So, all injectors were removed with minimal fuss, only 30 mins of dismantling and they were all out. Below are some pictures of them all out. However, they all looked fairly similar apart from no. 2 (left middle as you look at the engine) was...

2003 TD4 Coolant going down, oil going up...?!?!?!

I'm actually on the drive as I speak and have removed all injectors to take a look. I will post pictures later when I'm in and clean but tbh is hard to see much wrong with any of them. Apparently derv can also get into the sump if the seal on the high pressure fuel pump goes, but I thought...

Just been doing a bit more research, found this link on MG forum: http://forums.mg-rover.org/land-rover-176/freelander-td4-help-336778/ Any mileage in just disconnecting injectors one by one to see which one may be at fault, and if so what symptoms should that elicit? I'm just trying to think...

2003 TD4 Coolant going down, oil going up...?!?!?!

Just a thought before I do a leak off test - could that be in any way indicative of a problem at the other end of the injector going into the cylinders, or are the two entirely unrelated?

The local indie specialist I went to said the same thing, said he has seen it but hasn't had a FL td4 in with hgf for many a year

And thanks everyone else in a way I'm kinda glad as injectors whilst not exactly cheap are not quite hgf

2003 TD4 Coolant going down, oil going up...?!?!?!

Thanks nodge, that is what I am suspecting, I'm just baffled why the oil just doesn't smell of derv more. Is there a diy method of seeing which one is piddling? Would the standard leak back test be sufficient, given that it is a 10-minute job? I agree that it looks like the two are unrelated...
