Freelander 1 Horrid clunking noise from front. Now with added sound!

I have not done the jack up and rattle around method with the wheel. I'll go and give that a try shortly. Just for reference, it passed the MOT only 4 weeks ago so I was wondering whether that would/should have picked up on any of the points you list? Someone also suggested jacking the...

Freelander 1 Horrid clunking noise from front. Now with added sound!

Hi All, I have been pulling my hair out regarding a terrible dry clunking sound coming from the drivers side front of the 2003 TD4. I have replaced the anti roll bar linkages on both sides, but this made no difference. I am reluctant to keep replacing parts on a whim and am hoping someone...

Freelander 1 Ingenious idea for helping diagnose suspension fault!

I came across this great idea whilst searching for possible reasons for knocking noise on the hippo. I have a go pro so will give that a try to see if I can see what is going on. Clever idea.

Freelander 1 Dry grating noise over bumps?

On this occasion it was not the shields :-( Just wondering what to check next. As the noise is not a clunk and more like a loose joint I am not sure where to check next. If I stand on the driver side rail and really bounce the car I cannot get it to make the noise. It's only when you hit a...

Freelander 1 Dry grating noise over bumps?

It's funny you should say that as the sound is very much like thin metal grating over another surface. Is that a common issue as whilst typing this I am struggling to understand how that could only happen when going over a bump / pot hole?

Freelander 1 Dry grating noise over bumps?

The Hippo has developed a really annoying dry grating noise when going over a bump. It's only the drivers side and it is not so much of a knocking noise, but more a noise like something is grating against something else. It's difficult to describe. I replaced the ARB drop links as they had a...

Freelander 1 Buying parts. Any recommendations on getting quality?

Many thanks Chaps for being honest! I took the plunge and purchased genuine Land Rover rear diff bushings. They were very expensive, but I could not get my head around how you could buy a rear diff bushing for £15 and it be good quality. Going forward I will definitely pay more attention on...

Freelander 1 Buying parts. Any recommendations on getting quality?

I have been on a mission recently to sort out all of the issues with the wife's Hippo. Whilst purchasing parts I have fallen foul of the 'You get what you pay for' rule. For example, I purchased a LP pump from the local motor factors. The make was blue print (not sure if any good) at a cost...

Freelander 1 Rear Diff Mount Replacement - How to Guide

I love LandyZone!! I too never used to tackle car repairs, but with this forum I have to date done. HP Pump overhaul LP Pump replacement New Turbo Injectors .... Without this forum I would not have been able to do this. Now that I too have a knocking under the floor on a hard gear change I...

    Td4 none starter

Ok. If you have fuel at rail, but not at HP then it could be a leaky injector or the HP pump seals. You can knock up a leak back test kit for less than a fiver. 4 syringes from the vets + 3m of screen washer pipe. If the injectors are leaking back too much then you'll get low pressure in...

    Td4 none starter

I had a non starter. Could get it running with a spray of easy start. Cut a long story short it's worn o-rings on the fuel regulator. Does your LP prime and then stop quickly or keeps priming? That is a good indicator that it's the regulator.

Freelander 1 Low pressure fuel pump continually runs. Engine won't start

Buy that man a beer. It's the little o-ring that has gone.

Freelander 1 Low pressure fuel pump continually runs. Engine won't start

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - Split o-ring on fuel pressure regulator. Just wasted £750 all in on parts. So much for my diagnostic engineer yesterday who came around. Looked at the leak back test and was adamant it was the injectors. Hey ho.

Freelander 1 Low pressure fuel pump continually runs. Engine won't start

Ok, new injectors in and £600 lighter in the pocket. Guess what? It still does not start :-( The LP pump just continues to prime. It times out after a while, but from what I have read it will do that if the ECM tells it too. Battery on vehicle is now flat, so will get some leads and try it...

Freelander 1 Low pressure fuel pump continually runs. Engine won't start

They were not the same and 2 of them were leaking off quite badly > 25% over the other 2. Have ordered 4 recon injectors which will hopefully arrive tomorrow. Having read some of the horror stories I was really lucky that all 4 injectors came out with just a gentle twisting. Will update...

Freelander 1 Low pressure fuel pump continually runs. Engine won't start

Ok, here is an update. The diagnostic chap hooked up his equipment and as suspected, computer reads "No fault" Always seems the way with our TD4. We then manage to get it fired up using Easy Start. Once fired up it seemed to run ok. We left it running for about 1 minute, by which time...

Freelander 1 Low pressure fuel pump continually runs. Engine won't start

I popped the pipe off the LP filter outlet and flicked the ignition. Diesel came gushing out. Wish I had done that test before taking a punt and sticking a new LP on it yesterday. I have a diagnostic engineer coming out later as I don't think it is the LP side and that leaves too many...

Freelander 1 TD4 Leak back test results. Thoughts?

Ok. Thanks. I think I might concede defeat in this instance. Without pressure testing equipment you have no idea what is actually going on.
