Finally found the time to lift the front wheels. Don't know if this is normal, but both front wheels behave in a slight disconcerting way... Each wheel can be turned through 3-5 degrees until the drive shaft starts to turn. There is one clearly audible click when changing directions, seems to...

You might be on to something here. The cable for opening the bonnet looked suspicious. Just secured it with a tie clip. Looked around the air filter and noticed a chain of tie clips trying to pull the two top tubes away from the heater (unsure, boxy thingy top right back). Put some Kleenex...

Looks like someone replaced all the studs with bolts. Looked reasonably complete from below, so probably I don't have to worry any more. Will have to check the manuals next week to be sure.

So in all probability someone lost the bolt in there. If I'm thinking straight it would be a good idea to check that the gearbox housing is attached with the right number of bolts... There is probably no way to do this without tearing everything apart, is there?

Good question about the nut. Perhaps fell out already. Can get my hands on an endoscopic camera next week to look around...

While we were working on the car my mate noticed something through the drain holes of the bell housing. Got it out with a magnet. Undamaged threads, clean ends, not torn off. Is something coming apart or did someone just drop it in there?

Hard to explain. Vehicle is a '99 110 TD5. Had this strange noise almost from the first day I got it. What I know: it's coming somewhere from the right front. Frequency changes with vehicle speed. Light high pitched clicking, quite loud. How to reproduce: taking the foot from the accelerator...

Have to fight my wife regularly for my rightful place at the wheel. But she likes the smell of oil and the way I'm squirming around under the fender... go figure. ;)

Same problem here. Got a shiny new replacement lock since the old one is just kept working by some rubber bands. New lock won't hold the door - no mechanical interaction between the grip and the latch. Don't know what I'm missing...
