Can anyone tell me about the earth connection that's down there? My pump seems to have been running perfectly for the last 12 years without the earth wire being connected and the new pump runs too, although a little louder than usual!
Unfortunately the Pierburg that has arrived and been fitted sounds like a screaming banshee! I've tried to upload a video without success. I've ordered a replacement, hope it's better!
Pierburg it is then. Would it make sense to change the fuel filter at the same time? I changed it a couple of years ago, it's only done around 10k kilometres but I'm wondering if the pump failing may have introduced swarf etc into the fuel lines.
If so, does anyone know the manufacturer of the...
2004 TD4. Hi everyone, is the consensus of opinion still that the Pierburg pump is the only pump to fit?
Mine appears to have stopped working this morning!! Thanks in advance.
Out here in Spain I fitted Kleber Citilanders, 235/50/r18 and have been impressed so far. Kleber is the budget arm of Michelin and the Citilanders have an asymmetrical tread pattern like the Latitude Cross. IIRC, I paid around 135 euros per tyre.
SOLVED. You were correct Nodge, one of the wires to the boost solenoid was barely hanging on by a thread. In my defense the damage was tucked well inside the cable ducting so I didn't see it first time round. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
Thanks for all the help.
With the ignition on, will there be a constant live feed to the boost control solenoid connector or is it only energised at certain times?
Like I said earlier, electrics is not my forte!!
I haven't checked the wiring but I will. I know very little about electrics but I'll have a look. The turbo filter was changed recently but I spend a lot of time driving in dusty conditions so I'll stick a new one on.
Yes, it
Yes, it seems to move through its full range of motion. I have just checked for vacuum by sticking a syringe in the vacuum supply pipe to the turbo boost solenoid and there appears to be a good vacuum supply.
Hi, been a while since I posted, I've been having a good run up to now but it seems that's come to end!
So, the car felt a little down on power at low revs, fine higher up the rev range and the MIL coming on intermittently.
Codes read showing low boost pressure so I changed the turbo boost...
Thanks Ali, much appreciated. I'm on the mend but the enforced inactivity is starting to get to me and I have a front end knocking that needs to be investigated!!
Hi all, Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year from a not so sunny Spain.
Sorry for the belated message, my festive season started in quite a sh*tty way with a heart attack on the 21st! Back home now recovering slowly and catching up on the threads I missed.
Many thanks for all the past help and...
It's definitely a GKN unit, I've had the car 10 years and not replaced it so I assume it's the original.
I wonder if the much higher ambient temperatures here in Spain prolong the life of the VCU.
Yes I have. I've copied this from the 5th post of this thread.
'Should I be worried about a 42 second OWUT time? I recently did the test 3 or 4 times, in the morning without having driven the car. The first was 55 seconds with subsequent times dropping to level off at 42 seconds. 5kg on 1.2...
