my apolygies fanatic, i was having a bad day. to re cap the whole job.....i replaced the head gasket, the water pump,timing belt and tensioner.......... when i was undoing the crank pulley with the head off,the liners had moved up on 1 and 3 i think it was as my clamping device on the...

can i just say.........fanatic you have said two comments on this subject in a HELP forum...and well tbh neither comment is use nor ornament..if u aint gonna help folk then keep it to urself.........we all have to learn about our cars one way or another and yeah its the hard way sumtimes but hey...

thanks for the help folks..... i put steel rule across the head when it was off and looked against light...im sorta used to doing that sort of thing being an engineeer...and before anyone says why did i skim the head when off if ur an engineer....i was made redundant a week before xmas :(...

it would appear im still losing water :(. i have changed the head gasket and as this was my first one i dont think ive done it right(yes i hear all the ...heres another one...but we all gotta learn right.)....anyway.......all in all ive changed.....thermostat,inlet mani gasket...both done...

thanks chaps, when i take the valves out when engine off i get gushes from both holes....fountains even...however when engine running nothing comes from hole at top but i can see it flowing through the pipe. the heaters are still hot when on when driveing and the temp gauge doesnt move above...

thanks teddywood....the jiggle valve had been removed when i took the head off......so i dont have the heaters running? just turned to hot?

i reading but am i reading right? .................when bleeding the coolant system on 1.8 petrol.....bleed screws opened.....fill coolant expansion tank untill coolant flows from steel pipe.....tighten.........continue until coolant flows from top hose by bulkhead...tighten? job done or am i...

cams are already off chaps..but im asumeing i just line up marks....il knock a clamp up in the garage tomorrow.....put that on and then re build?

well the head gasket change has commenced today whilst waiting for me socket set to arrive....i have a question though for those in the know......i set the timing as per a websites guide to the job ...took the belt off...but as i was removing the top pullies it seemed to jump round about quarter...

im going to be doing my hg on 2000 1.8 petrol k series after xmas...have done shopping list for parts , hg set with head bolts(full gasket set) bargain at £45 timing belt and tensioner i have read somewhere that the head bolts are torx head? am i right in that i need a E12 socket or...
