    caps under the windscreen

Genius. I need some LaCrocof****e stuff to wipe the oil of my dipstick (that isn't a euphemism). Back on track. I'm tight. I bought some secondhand ones off the bay, with bolts and rubbers. The plan is to refurb the secondhand ones, paint to the correct colour at my convenience, then when ready...

    caps under the windscreen

Hi, I have a simple question. The caps either side of the windscreen on my 90 are oxidised and the paint is flaking. As I need to use the vehicle on a daily basis removing the offending items, prepping, spraying and replacing is a no-go. So I need to purchase two replacements, which I can fix...

    90 rear door lock

I replaced mine with an allmakes one, fitted perfectly and cheaper than an original part. The problem with buying a used secondhand one is you never know how much wear there is. On mine the little internal cam failed which I'm led to believe, is a common fault.

I found a good site to bulk buy degreasers for use in a pressure washer by the way, they also sell a variety of traffic film removers. Traffic Film

The only issue with Vactan is that ideally it needs to be 20ยบ before you can use it. Shame as its certainly cheap.

Rust Bullet, KBS Rust Seal or Dinitrol - your opinions please!

Thanks Station House, I too have read the many threads and ended up quite confused, some folk recommend the rust bullet, others not What I'm hoping for is someone who has long term experience of any one of the products I'm considering. Fingers crossed. Lead Farmer - Vactan eh? Thanks for that...

Rust Bullet, KBS Rust Seal or Dinitrol - your opinions please!

So, I already have some Rust Bullet, which I've used on the rear door and just started on the chassis with. However, before I begin the epic chassis paint in earnest I thought I would canvas some opinions from those that most likely have already done the same. Rust Bullet sounded like the dogs...

    Squeaky clutch pedal

Just grease the spring, mine used to drive me mad with the squeak but when I recently replaced the slave and master I took the opportunity to clean and grease the spring. It's silent now.

Is your Defender your main vehicle?

Mine is my main transport, I sold my VW Passat Estate TDi, used up all my spare savings and bought an P reg 90. I don't regret it for a moment; the last best vehicle I ever had was my series IIa, my 90 is now the next best. I just have to pour a bunch more cash at it and then she's a keeper for...

Safest way to clean your engin

I wrapped all the electrics and fuse boxes in cling film (the parcel wrap stuff not kitchen film) then set the jet wash to a fan setting at the nozzle rather than jet and got stuck in after first using Jizer with a squirty bottle. Started just fine after. Be careful with some of the...

Adjusting Defender 90 Rear Door Lock - Help!!

So am I! TBH I don't think having that hoofing great wheel hanging off the back door for the last 14 years has helped matters much. The door is slightly twisted as a result and the old lock definitely shows signs of distorting. Man-tec wheel carrier eventually, till then it can live in the back.

Adjusting Defender 90 Rear Door Lock - Help!!

I did a similar thing, only I stuck the rubber gasket to the lock with seam sealant (RTV?) and then gobs of sealant over that the screwed the lock on. The excess sealant was wiped off to leave a watertight seal. Fingers crossed.

Adjusting Defender 90 Rear Door Lock - Help!!

Well, in the end the door closes and the latch shuts correctly. There is still room for improvemnt, I think I need to increase the vertical movement of the latch by opening the base of the holes in the body but that's a job for later. This is the process I had to go through to get it to fit...

Adjusting Defender 90 Rear Door Lock - Help!!

Thanks defcrazy, The door does line up, the rubber seal keeps the door from closing completely, but a small amount of pressure closes the door. The door does swing freely. I'm unwilling to shim the actual lock as that would leave a gap that the wafer thin weather seal wouldn't be able to cope...

Adjusting Defender 90 Rear Door Lock - Help!!

Well, I decided to do a bit of a refurb to my rear 90 door. The previous owners had neglected to replace the dum-dum in the window so water had been ****ing in for a good few years, resulting in a nice sodden, rusty rear door, door card etc. Not beyond salvage though I thought. Having removed...
