Paint versus powder coating: which is best?

No worries at all! If Defenders can have galv chassis, why not FL galv subframes?

If you can get live data telemetry, that can be really helpful to work out more complex problems :)

Paint versus powder coating: which is best?

Thanks chaps - really interesting read. I like the idea of galvanising - not sure about the heat distortion though…?

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

What is the process of getting the DVLA to re-classify a vehicle's emission classification? I want to convert my MGF - not to electric straightaway, but to EU3 or EU4 (which would be straightforward and would avoid the need to pay the ULEZ charge everytime I drive my car). But if I did that...

That's true! The one bit I didn't understand was how the parcel shelf was cut down Ivan?

    FL1 bonnet struts

Good price too! :D Just bought a replacement strut for the rear door (I hadn't realised that the door was supported by a gas strut!) - and a single strut to replace the original costs between £18-22 - so a pair with fitting hardware, this looks good value :)

Freelander 1 Idiot Driver damaged my sons FL1

OMG - just reading through this thread. Your lad in the Freelander likely saved some childrens' lives! If he couldn't stop for a massive, silver Land Rover, scant chance he'd have stopped for a child. Not sure what I would do in this situation - a lot will depend on whether you believe...

Freelander 1 3 Door Parcel Shelf

Great job! I like this. @Arctic2 not sure about the Rover 75/ ZT tourer blinds - I did have a pair of these, but let them go when I had to sell our ZTT (diesel-ULEZ incompatibility issue :() so I can't now check...

Freelander 1 Drive Shaft changed again three Amigos

I doubt that the low voltage would cause a three amigo fault, unless from the TC/ABS ECU. The fault sounds as though it is that rear ABS speed sensor… which at least ought to be relatively easy to sort out…

Paint versus powder coating: which is best?

Thanks - hmmm - still not sure which way to go now… blast the frames definitely, but whether to paint or coat? I’ll get quotes and consider the time I’d need to invest…

Paint versus powder coating: which is best?

Thanks guys - that’s really reassuring. I’ll aim to keep with plan A, so long as it is affordable to powder coat the subframes (Londinium tax!) I’ll get some quotes…

Paint versus powder coating: which is best?

Question as per title: I’m going to recondition some subframes and will get them shot blasted to get rid of all the flaking surface rust. not sure whether to powder coat at the same time or paint? powder coating is tougher, but if chipped can trap moisture and exacerbate rusting (or so I’ve...

That’s you’re best bet. In mine, I’ve had to replace both front wheel speed sensors, the NSF reluctor ring and the yaw sensor! Oh, and the brake switch. Everything appears to be behaving now though. tbh had I not have a diagnostic tool, finding the problems would have been neigh on impossible...

How to recondition a VCU yourself.

That's a good approach - and an excellent idea to work on a spare unit and feel able to take your time and do it right :)

How to recondition a VCU yourself.

I am so time poor at the moment, I think I'll be taking mine to Bell Engineering. The bearings are also super noisy now... it just needs fixing. Not too difficult to DIY as Alibro has capably demonstrated, so I feel guilty - but COVID is still keeping me very busy!!! :(

    Freelander 1 low speed wine

The PG1 will take all manner of abuse, but the IRD is more critical on a FL1 - and the appearance of the oil will be very important (hopefully no silver glitter!!)
