Personally I'd go with the fours spankers, keeping the best of the old 'uns as yer spare. Espesh as the likes of QuackFart do a decent online price for four, as they habitually do. I'd give the usual online chappies as trawl as well of course. Fingers and pulse and all that.

I had exactly the same issue - low speed grindy front brakes. Sounded like a bit of grit had got between pad and disk. KwikFart gave them a £10 cleanup (rust off, edge clean etc) which lasted for a little while but the noise soon came back. Service chap said the disks were at minimum level...

Power Steering pump has gone, apparently. Some fluid dripping into the tray. £250 to replace inc labour, fluids (I assume Power Steering Fluid, not tea for the Mechanic) plus testing.

I get the very occasional issue with first gear. When wanting to move off from a standing start it sometimes just won't go in! Have to pop it into second, then it slides nicely into first; bob's yer proverbial. No pattern to it though.

For comparison, I've just done 485 miles on one tank (05/TD4/HSE), mostly with the aircon on, fuel guage showed the tank about an eighth full but I topped up anyway. 57 litres to refill at 108p per litre (Shell V Power Diesel) :censored: This Link tells me I got 38.68mpg and it cost me 12.5p...

40mpg in my 05/TD4/HSE - I only ever use Vpower diesel (works out the same price as buying cheaper fuel and separate additives - I prefer mine perfectly pre-mixed!) and of course, the main thing, remember to dip your right sock in helium before you set out.

All dials are fairly accurate to be fair, certainly within 1 or 2mph compared to the Navman. I rarely push the RPM dial past the "midnight" position (I'm the wrong side of 40!) - 3,000rpm giving 65-70mph does quite nicely for me. I'm doing a similar Uni run this Saturday - Midlands to...
