    3.5 V8 timing

    I had a tickover problem with my 3.9, its on this forum somewhere, took me ages to find the problem and it was the centrifugal advance inside the distributor. Fitted a second hand distributor, set the timing as per haynes manual and she is like new!!

    Battery Isolator switch

    If you wanted to keep it really simple you can buy a battery terminal clamp with isolator built in. Cheap and effective but means you have to access battery to isolate

    I built my own 3" single exit exhaust for 3.9efi, i bought stainless exhaust parts (bends, polished silencer, straights) from demon tweeks and welded them together, sounds and looks great!!

    Rear Window

    Did you have the heated window switched on? I had one explode on me whilst driving and im pretty sure it was down to the heated window that was turned on.

    90 brake upgrade???

    i dont think there is anything wrong with the brakes, i just want to upgrade them to make them better. The brakes on my disco are far better than the 90, the disco has a bigger (looks like double) servo, maybe this will easily fit the 90??

    Does anyone know of an effective braking system upgrade for a defender 90. I have a 3.9efi, goes well but stops not so well, the brakes work but you have to stand on the pedal. It is fitted with standard disc's all round and braded hoses. Have thought about bigger vented discs, bigger calipers...

    3.9 EFI tickover problem

    Not sure, the base was bent and both pins that secure the springs were damaged and the rubber blanking plug in the side was missing. I did find a piece from a distributor cap inside the bottom end of the dizzy, it was the centre contactor that touches the rotor arm, maybe this caused the damage...

    All sorted, it was a problem with the distributor. The centrifugal advance baseplate was bent and the springs were loose. Fitted a second hand dizzy from ebay and shes now running great.
