    Newbie after some possible guidance

Agree. I had similar problem with mine. Turned out to be a split hose and a gunked up EGR valve. Only had around a pea sized hole in the gunk to let air through and the valve that is supposed to bring gasses in to recirculate was completely gunked & coked up. You can remove & clean with oven...

    New Freelander costs gone heavy.

It's the exact reason I'm buying another used TD4 rather than financing a new FL2. prices have gone beyond reasonable. They are nice cars, but aren't supposed to be Land Rovers premium product. I'd rather by a FL1 and have some money in my bank to put things right than be stretched to the limit...

    Heater/Air Con not working

Always start simple and work from there. Unlikely to be the switch as it was running when it packed in. If a switch it would probably not have turned on/off from the start. Check fuses first.

    Heater/Air Con not working

Have you checked the fuse? Might be something as simple as that if air con and heater not working. Also check the switch is working with a multi meter.

Help please. Newbie heard dreaded news today

I agree. I'd take it to Bell and have them check it, they will do so free of charge. You will probably want the work done to rectify it as a 2 wheel drive Land Rover is as useful as a chocolate fireguard. If it does turn out to be a modified IRD or VCU I'd take it further with the seller/dealer...

Help please. Newbie heard dreaded news today

It's pretty dodgy that people are selling freelanders with damaged drive trains or drivetrains that have been modified with iRDs or VCUs designed for 2wd conversion. Most buyers will only check to make sure the prop is all in place and do the full lock reverse test to check the VCU isn't stiff...

Back again with Bargain basement hippo

That's a nice low mileage for a 99 Freelander. Most that age are sky high mileage or dead K series jobs.

    My 2006 TD4 Auto HSE

Nice post. Glad to see you now have a well sorted freelander. At least when you do jobs yourself you know they have been done and can put your mind at ease. Really nice car.

Coming back to the Freelander Club

I'm the same. The wife wanted a disco or a Freelander 2. I just can't warrant the spend or the repayments. We both work from home so the car is really only used for leisure. the part ex offers are abysmal and the cost of the new breed of 'Posh Landys' is a bit ridiculous. What happened to all...

Coming back to the Freelander Club

Ashcrofts reputation is pretty good from everything I've seen & read. Makes me wish I'd just paid to have a recon box fitted on my last Freelander rather than selling it off cheap to save the hassle. Oh well, you live & learn. I got a free DVD last year when I subscribed to land rover monthly...

Coming back to the Freelander Club

Mine had 77k on it when I sold it. Mileage doesn't bother me either way, check condition of major components & wear & tear items. I'd rather have a well maintained high miler than a 1 lady owner, pootle down to the shops never warmed up low miler. I've driven so many different land rovers and...

Coming back to the Freelander Club

I agree with that completely. I looked into financing a disco or maybe a Freelander 2 and the prices just don't warrant it for me. The old Freelander did me well, it's only since chopping and changing cars I realise how much I liked it. That's a nice looking car epicuser - still not sure to...

Coming back to the Freelander Club

Thanks, just what i needed to hear. nice to see people are happy to fix & maintain their vehicles instead of just trading them in. Out of curiosity, the guys who have had the Jatco replaced by Dave Ashcroft, how painless was it & how long did it take?

Coming back to the Freelander Club

I thought the Jatco was a nice box, until it went bang. Never really failed, but the gear changes got worse & worse. Kept holding gears and over revving the engine because it wouldn't change up. I did have a good 70k miles out of that box in a few years without missing a beat. Was great in...

It will be another auto. Loved the td4 auto until the jatco box gave up. Learned a lot from the last one.

Coming back to the Freelander Club

Cheers guys. To be fair the old Freelander was like part of the family. Took us all over the country in all weather. Never failed to get us home. I wish I'd took it to Dave Ashcroft to get the jatco replaced. Ended up paying £800 for a repair only for it to go wrong & get screwed by a...

Coming back to the Freelander Club

Well After a lot of issues with my TD4 Auto I sold it back in November last year. Final straw was a faulty Jatco box. After a year without any Land Rovers in the family, driving a Mini Cooper S & now a Merc C230 estate I've decided I miss the FL (and this forum believe it or not) too much. I'm...

52 Freelander GS TD4 Auto 5 door for sale

Just to clarify (after another member asked). Car is currently based in St Helens, Merseyside. I spilt my time between the three locations in my profile due to having family in each place but my house is in St Helens. With regards tax & MOT. 12 months new MOT with no advisories and a few months...
