Agree. I had similar problem with mine. Turned out to be a split hose and a gunked up EGR valve. Only had around a pea sized hole in the gunk to let air through and the valve that is supposed to bring gasses in to recirculate was completely gunked & coked up. You can remove & clean with oven...

It's the exact reason I'm buying another used TD4 rather than financing a new FL2. prices have gone beyond reasonable. They are nice cars, but aren't supposed to be Land Rovers premium product. I'd rather by a FL1 and have some money in my bank to put things right than be stretched to the limit...

Always start simple and work from there. Unlikely to be the switch as it was running when it packed in. If a switch it would probably not have turned on/off from the start. Check fuses first.

Have you checked the fuse? Might be something as simple as that if air con and heater not working. Also check the switch is working with a multi meter.

I agree. I'd take it to Bell and have them check it, they will do so free of charge. You will probably want the work done to rectify it as a 2 wheel drive Land Rover is as useful as a chocolate fireguard. If it does turn out to be a modified IRD or VCU I'd take it further with the seller/dealer...

It's pretty dodgy that people are selling freelanders with damaged drive trains or drivetrains that have been modified with iRDs or VCUs designed for 2wd conversion. Most buyers will only check to make sure the prop is all in place and do the full lock reverse test to check the VCU isn't stiff...

That's a nice low mileage for a 99 Freelander. Most that age are sky high mileage or dead K series jobs.
