No Power when engine cold TD4

I'm into my third winter with my TD4, and I always find the power drops off when cold in the winter. As soon as mine warms up it pulls like a train again, but it does feel a little more sluggish when cold. I guess it's a big old lump of metal to heat up.

    VCU seized?

OK Just been underneath. hardly any play in the diff mounts, slight movement in the propshaft mount behind the VCU but not much in the mount forward of the VCU. by movement it's probably less than 1cm Max. Can't see any signs of contact on the underbody. Diff seems really sold, can't get it to...

    VCU seized?

I'll get underneath again later today to check for any signs of contact. Need to get this sorted in the next week as I'm due in Scotland for christmas with the family, and they are buried under snow so the Freelander has to be in good shape.

    Another Problem - interior lights

Will check it out and report back, thanks Eric.

    Another Problem - interior lights

Well, it seems that all my problems are happening at the same time. For some reason the front interior lights aren't working using the switches. The central light comes on with the door opening/closing but will not operate manually from the switch, also both left & right map reading lights are...

    VCU seized?

Should it be able to move upwards at all? Just been under the car and the prop seems pretty solid when pushing it and trying to move it side to side, up and down.

    VCU seized?

Just been under the car and checked all the mounts. Seems to be very little play in them. Any sure fire way to tell if it's the diff mounts? They look in fairly good nick, and the car has only done 57k

    Freelander tyre recommendations?

I Always use Goodyear Wranglers all year round. Did me well all last winter in the snow in Scotland. Couple of feet of snow and they never faltered.

    VCU seized?

Will do, thanks for the heads up. And if it's the exhaust mount I'll escort myself out of the building, didn't make a link between the advisory and the knocking.

    VCU seized?

Oh ****, think I might have figured it out. MOT was last week and I got an advisory on rear exhaust mount corrosion. Think that could be knocking?

    VCU seized?

How best to check that? Get it up on a ramp and check for movement?

Rear window - what is the point?

Yeah press the unlock button for a few seconds and it drops down. We use ours quite alot in the summer, never have a problem with fumes entering the cab. Also good to open it a little if you have a dog in the car. I love the opening back window, even though it's just something else to break (or...

    VCU seized?

Hi Guys. Just had my winter tyres fitted, Goodyear Wranglers all round, then did a trip to Exeter & back today from cornwall and noticed a weird new issue. When accelerating hard, im getting a clunk from the rear, happening mostly for instance when coasting upto a roundabout, foot off the...

    Numberplate Removal

Really? They all seem to be offering it. My current plate has a land rover logo on it, and it's been there since I bought it so must have been on a while. Its never failed an MOT yet, and never been pulled up about it. Demon Plates seem to offer the logos without any warning about legality. Will...

    Numberplate Removal

Will have a new numberplate yeah, when I order the thing. Trying to find someone who will do the square shaped plate for the rear with a Land Rover logo on it, seems they have every manufacturer except Land Rover on the sites I've found. Googling as we speak. Thanks for the tips, I'll use a bit...

    Numberplate Removal

Brute force it is then? I'm sure I could lance it off in one go with that axe, the plate that is :)

    Numberplate Removal

 Stupid question, but has anyone removed the rear number plate? Mine is looking really tired so going to order a new one online. Are they held out with those sticky backed foam things, or some kind of hidden clip system? Don't want to brute force it only to find some elaborate clips behind...

    Tyre choice

I'm having a new set of boots put on today. I like the Goodyear WRANGLER HP (ALL WEATHER) 215/65/R16 98S. Had them on last time and got 50k out of them. Very even wear and good all round performance (even in the snow). So it's a set of Wranglers all round. The previous owner had Nexen tyres...

Moisture/mould in rear passenger door quarterlight

Hi Howardo. I will do that. Not worried about it like that, just don't like having niggling problems like this with no obvious cause. And if a kid get's a gob full of green stuff, I'm sure it won't do them any good. I'd rather the IRD or VCU give me jip than an angry mum, I can get my hands...
