    TD4 engine oil level check

I have always checked when cold on every engine I have ever worked on, checking on a very hot engine can give a false reading as there might have been insufficient time for all the oil to settle in the sump.

    Freelander will not start

If the engine is not turning over and it`s just the starter clicking then it sounds like a low/flat battery. As normally if the starter is knackered then you don`t get any response at all.

    Windscreen Wiper Linkage

There are plenty of scrapyards/dismantlers around, so you should be able to pick up a linkage fairly cheap. Ahh.........fond memories of removing parts from a car at the bottom of a pile of three. :)

    Tracking issues

Or pick up a pair of axle stands, always a handy item to have.

    Freelander Non Dealer Specialist

If you pick up a copy of LR monthly there are numerous ads for non dealer specialists, that is how I found two near me.

    Tracking issues

I thought my tracking was out as it was pulling to the left, swapped wheels over and it started pulling to the right, had tracking checked and it was spot on, apparently it was a faulty tyre, put a new boot on and problem sorted.

What MPG do you get from your Flander

Just done an "official" mpg check on my std `04 Td4S, 5 door, manual. Had a 200 mile round trip to the lakes keeping to a steady 70mph on the motorway, and the other 220 miles made up of local commuting, just given me a return of 37mpg, very happy with that.

    Heated seat wire

It is a standard wiring loom fitted to all FL`s, mine is the same and yes, it is wiring for heated seats.

Changing TD4 fuel filter (later type)

The fuel filter should be changed every 60,000 miles according to LR, just changed mine a few weeks ago so should be ok for another 10 years, lol

Changing TD4 fuel filter (later type)

The fuel system is self priming so no need to do anything.

    Just bought a Freelander

I`ve had my `04 Td4S for about 3 months now, and it`s the best car I have owned so far. Don`t worry about the little faults you have, just remember it`s 9 years old and has been around the world nearly 4 times. All cars have faults at some time or other.

    Rear brake cylinder Freelander

Try and use an impact socket if you can as these are only 6 point not 12, and put everything back together with a smear of copper grease on all threads to prevent future seizing.

    Fuel pump?

Access to the fuel pump is done by lifting the luggage compartment carpet and removing the inspection panel. Remove the locking ring and lift the pump clear. The pressure regulator is an integral part of the pump and can not be renewed separately. You can also check the fuel filter at the same...

    td4 facelift model

I picked up an 04 Td4S 5 door manual, facelift model, 12 months MOT with 70K on the clock for £6K. Take it for a spin to see how it drives and make sure everything works, service history is a bonus though not essential as mine had none. I would steer clear of the 1.8 petrol though, prone to head...

Hi to all from the NW

Did a fair bit of research before parting with the cash, was a service/production engineer on FLT`s for 16 years so the odd fault or 6 I don`t mind, give me something to do on a weekend.

Hi to all from the NW

Found the site on Saturday while searching for an answer to my Freelander problem (which is now sorted due to the knowledge of folk on this site). Own a 04 Td4 facelift which I have had for about 3 months. Would have gone for a Disco but could not quite afford to. :)

What MPG do you get from your Flander

Completely standard 2004 Td4 SW, manual, 79,000 on the clock, fitted with Federal AT`s at 28 psi, average between 35-40 mpg, very light footed on the accelerator, not up and down the box all the time as she can easily pull from 20 mph in 4th, regularly self serviced.
