Mine had the same problem but like you I tried this forum for help and taking of the badge and spraying with WD 40 worked a treat, just spray and move the hinged metal plate behind the badge backwards and forwards, mine was stuck in the open position even though the door was locked.

I don't want to worry you unduly but I would keep a good watch on it, they could be looking with a view to stealing, even an old scruffy Disco is worth a fair bit of money once stripped down and sold of as spares and is almost untraceable.

Its almost certain to be coming in through the sunroof, its a common fault, check back through old threads there is some very good information about this.

The spring issue of L.R.O.I. issue 5 has a TD5 engine guide, according to them it was January 2002 when the cats where added, so if your vehicle is before this date you won't have one.

Hold on to your hat mate ! if you had said it was a series 1 in the first place and you wanted to try and keep it to as near original as possible then no one would have suggested anything different, if you trust your mate go for it.

Avoid it like the plague ! try getting the 2.5 litre n/a diesel its a far better engine, you should be able to pick one up 100/200 but try to hear it running first.

Turn your lights on and then try to start it, if the lights dim when you turn it over it would suggest the battery is done.

You press it inwards and release, it should then pop out under its own steam.
