Im sure the tratter boys would be pleased to hear you say that ;) Im ex forces myself so driven many a tratter but prefer a bit of comfort along side off road ability these days! ( I live on a farm where we get a lot of snow in the winter so need something capable or id not be able to...

AWD on a jeep.. Never! 4WD if you please :p Same as what them there Tratter boys have. By the way, I like the WJ's well and did look at a few before buying the WK but most where rusty sheds. If I could find a decent one and afford to run it id love one of the 4.7 V8's cos they sound awesome!

True Nodge the yokos arent available in that size but just using it as an example of how bad I thought the maxxis were compared to a 'decent' tyre. I notice you said the maxxis were 'acceptable'. Being as the tyres are the only thing keeping you gripping to the road I want mine to be a lot...

    Insa turbo ranger

Id have to add a NO vote for the Maxxis AT's im afraid. I had them in 18" on my Jeep Grand Cherokee and as Nodge has said they are quite loud but the worst thing I found was that the grip in the wet and snow / ice was terrible! ABS used to kick in frequently when braking in the wet and I had 2...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Not today as im at work but yesterday - changed the fuel filter and glow plugs :). Fuel filter carrier was a bit of a pain to get out as the bolt heads where pretty corroded but plenty of plus gas and they came out ok in the end. Fuel filter was tight but came out pretty easy by putting an...

    TD4 'chugging'

Well unplugged each injector today and looks like one of them is knackered :( 3 of them made the idle stumble when unplugged but one of them had no effect when unplugged. Time to source a new injector! On the plus side though I changed the glow plugs. Scariest plug change ive ever done. All 4...

Gonna unplug the injectors one by one as advised tomorrow and will report back

    TD4 'chugging'

Already changed the fuel pressure overlay wiring harness so definatly not that. No issues with idling or staring just seems to be missing a beat and shaking the whole car

    TD4 'chugging'

Well i changed the fuel filter today and unfortunatly no change. The bit thats putting doubt in my mind is wouldnt the revs fluctuate if it was a duff injector and misfiring? The revs are completely rock steady and the car drives great but the whole car is now shaking when its stationary. You...

    TD4 'chugging'

Sounds like a plan. Ill give that a go. Is changing an injector a DIY job or does it need specialist tools?

    TD4 'chugging'

Not sure what you mean by is it off a cylinder? I dont think its any kind of damper or engine mount issue as you can hear the chugging in the exhaust note. Almost like its not firing on all cylinders (is that what you meant?)

    TD4 'chugging'

Injector was what I was thinking but hoping its not. Suppose id better try and get it booked into a garage to get it checked :(

    TD4 'chugging'

After a bit of advice on diagnosing a fault guys. Today my wifes FL1 TD4 started chugging/vibrating when idling. Not effecting the driving at all but when stopping at lights etc you can feel the chugging / vibration and hear it in the engine note. It sounds as though its not firing on all...

ABS front sensor for 2005 Freelander 1 TD4

Another question! If the sensor is the problem, will the 3 amigo's clear on their own on a facelift model once the sensor is replaced or will it need the fault codes clearing with a diagnostics code reader?

ABS front sensor for 2005 Freelander 1 TD4

Just read your thread Rob, I really hope getting mine out doesn't end up like that! With regards to the compressor I think I have the same problem you had, low output compressor and cheap windy guns. Need a bigger compressor and a hi torque windy....time to get scouring ebay ;)

ABS front sensor for 2005 Freelander 1 TD4

I do actually have a 25l compressor (and two windy guns) but its about as much use as a chocolate fire guard for removing stubborn nuts. Doesn't even have enough oomph to remove wheel nuts most of the time! It only gets used for inflating tyres and blowing dust, swarf and general crud off things!

Glow Plugs - Any recommended make?

Im just hoping they werent put in by the same gorilla that tightened down the oil filter cover. I had to use a 2 foot breaker bar to get that undone!

Glow Plugs - Any recommended make?

Having read some accounts of cheap plugs deforming / expanding and getting stuck I decided to go with a decent make so ordered a set of NGK plugs. Fingers crossed that the old ones come out ok now!
