    Painting galv

I deceased my chassis and rubbed down with course abrasive pad, then used Buzzweld "Galve in One" , so far so good. My thinking was I wanted to have a paint that would stick on galvanised steel jus in case I missed a bit.

    My Defender 90 200tdi rebuild

All prepped for paint, decided to use stone guard on the inner wheel arches and base of the tub, with Buzzweld Galve in One on the repair panels. It looks grey in the photos but it’s all black. Just need to mask off the bottom of the tub when doing primer/ top coats hopefully making the job...

    My Defender 90 200tdi rebuild

A day spent prepping panels for paint, just the tub and roof to do.

    This little brown wire

It is connected to the start relay plug.

    This little brown wire

The wire on the alternator is much larger than this “unknown” one which makes me think it is connected to the solenoid and it is from the start relay.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all of your help. Went to bleed the brakes this afternoon as all the panels are off for final paint prep, more leaks than a Welsh allotment- methinks wrong fittings

    This little brown wire

I checked it this morning, I have continuity from the free end to the brown wire in the relay plug. I would assume , based on the wiring diagram you copied earlier this indeed on of the brown wires to the solenoid.

    This little brown wire

I think this looks like it should be one of the wires connecting from the start relay(mounted in engine bay centre of bulkhead ) and the solenoid.

    Yep.

No electric fan fitted, and the loom wrapping looks original.

    This little brown wire

I’ve added photographs of the alternator and starter solenoid. I have continuity from the plug on the relay that is mounted on the bulkhead. I believe this is the starter relay, am I correct? The wire could reach the alternator but is likely to be against the block, it could be connected to the...

    1985 90 rebuild project.

You will need lots of space as you strip it down to store panels etc as well as doing the work. I wish I had a workshop to do the work, especially during the wet and winter seasons of September to July up here.

I’ll get some more pics tomorrow of the alternator and starter solenoid, should that be later today, as I need to remove the wings. Thanks for the feedback.

    My Defender 90 200tdi rebuild

Just had to mock up what I’m trying to build. Off work for a couple of weeks with a target to get it at least into primer, maybe even top coat,!!!

Some other pics, the wire could easily reach the front of the wing(near side).

    This little brown wire

Refitting the wiring loom I now have this brown wire which the label and terminal has disappeared, it comes out of the wiring loom behind the engine and I assume will terminate on the starter solenoid. What is puzzling me is the point it exits the loom, if it is terminated at the starter why...

    My Defender 90 200tdi rebuild

Finally got the nuts on the lower damper, I used a ratchet strap to compress the lower bushes. All seated correctly and tightened up. I’ll repaint the chassis as I go , as you say at least it is galvanised underneath. I am thinking about Dinitrol or Waxoyl for the inside of the bulkhead and...
