    Coolant Leak

Very easy to check if it's the inlet gasket, just run your finger under the square lip of the inlet manifold and if it's wet, thats where it is. However this leak is more likely to run down the back of the engine rather than the side where the timing belt is, so once you rule out inlet manifold...

Unfortunately not (yet / not sure whether to). Gutted i missed out on a few VVC heads that were a good price recently.

    K&N filter

I've fitted a few other bits and bobs such as direct to head throttle bodies, uprated exhaust etc. Go for it. It'll make a nice grunt.

    Newbie with two questions...

Have a look at this thread i posted in several months back now, there's a few pics in there as well. It should give you a bit more info about fitting a sub but i'd definitely recommend it anyway: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/freelander-stereo-speaker-upgrade-113520.html If your speaker...

Freelander will not start since replacing the inlet manifold gasket

You're right there. When the immobiliser is activated, many engine functions like spark, fuel pump and injectors are disabled... therefore you can rule out immobiliser problems. The fuel pump is under the rear seat on the right hand side and is easy enough to test if you remove it from the...

    Newbie with two questions...

I upgraded to a pair of reasonably cheap JBL's from halfords. It's a 16.5cm speaker diameter but beware that the space in the door is quite shallow so don't get anything where the cone is too deep. The sills can take a bit of abuse from stones etc. There are other things to account for this...

Freelander will not start since replacing the inlet manifold gasket

It won't be anything to do with immobiliser or unlocking issues. Remember that the engine turns and you've a spark at the plugs. This wouldn't happen if the immobiliser wasn't turning off. There are a number or cables that could have been disturbed or become wet while taking off the manifold...

    Drop links!

One reason they might be dieing early is if your anti roll bar isn't central. Your anti roll bar has two bump stops either side or the bushes that can sometimes come off. A quick fix for this is two hose clips on the side of the bushes.

    K&N filter

I had a K&N conical filter before i installed my direct to head throttle bodies. I'd definitely recommend the K&N filter as it gives the throttle a little more response. You could even go one step further and replace the 48mm throttle body with a 52mm. The change of throttle body size or air...

    Guess the engine part!

If i remember rightly the tube goes to a black cylinder on the EU2 engines, yet yours is an EU3 by looking at the rocker cover. The box on the top on the right hand side will contain whatever it is going to, possibly still a black cyclinder... Mine snapped off when i still had an original...

Freelander will not start since replacing the inlet manifold gasket

Wrong Teddy. The inlet manifold gasket actually has a water seal as well. They can quite commonly leak on the 1.8K series engine. Hawkmoon, did you drain the coolant before taking the manifold off or did you just take the manifold off the engine and then let it drain from there? Sounds like a...

    K Seal

NOOOOOO Never use K seal in a K series engine. You're asking for trouble.

    Knocking from underneath

The anti roll bar can still be nice and tight and still bang on the strut. Other things to check are: Anti roll bar drop links Lower arm ball joint These are the most common to go. It could also be something really simple, make sure all bolts are nice are tight. Especially at the top of the...

    Knocking from underneath

hmmm, check the front anti roll bar isn't knocking on the suspension struts. Might be doing this if it's lost one of the stops that keeps it central.

    AT Tyres

If you're in 2 wheel mode, a pair of 70's on front won't do any harm. Just DON'T go back to 4 wheel mode with 70's on front and 65's still on back else you'll get windup and feck your VCU/IRD.

Individual cylinders run rough when cold

If its not losing any coolant, remove the plugs and drop a little bit of redex into each cylinder. Turn over engine with the petrol pump fuse removed and the refit. If it's losing coolant then it's likely to be going into the cylinders. Here's hoping you've just been parking it somewhere a bit...
