Series IIa petrol 2.25 non starter...

If I'm honest I'm not sure how to check the timing... don't have a haynes manual for it or a timing light. All the 'how tos' I've seen online either have no pics or lose me a bit. Mind you... if the timing was wrong it wouldn't have started and then cut out when we first got the new battery...

Series IIa petrol 2.25 non starter...

Thanks for the reply, Tried starting with air filter on and off, no luck either way. Petrol is fresh. Not had the float open yet, have to familiarise myself with the weber carb first. I'm not too sure how much petrol you mean to put into the top of the carb, but I've given a few...

Which 1.8 K Series Hoses fail?

At 104,000 miles you'll be looking at doing the headgasket again if you want peice of mind. IF it has already been done, it's probably been done around 50,000 to 80,000 miles. On the lower end of the scale your 'new' headgasket could have done 50,000 miles already. Couldn't see if anyone else...

Steel Seal - how good is it?

Wouldn't touch anything like that with a K series engine... The water channels on K series (especially the 1.8) are very narrow. Yes, you get a money back guarantee but they won't pay for the cost of a new cylinder head once the water channels get blocked. You say you need new oil and a new...

Series IIa petrol 2.25 non starter...

Long time since I've been on here... hoping you guys could help me out again! The girlfriends father has a Series IIa, it's been dropped off by the mechanic and it won't start since! The mechanic has put a new dizzy cap in and by looks of it a new coil. He thinks it needs a new carb but...

I need some sound advice . Speakers and sub needed .

The hole will be smaller than the speaker remember ;) it has to have a lip for it to sit on else the speaker would just fall through the hole :)

    New trumpets and air socks

Got some shiny new air horns / trumpets and filter socks for my throttle bodies. Got longer ones to give a little more torque. Will have to get the emerald K6 mapped again now. Give a nice throaty sound on induction though :D

    Replace 1.8 with TD4.How difficult?

What would ya want to do that for? TD4 is no where near as fast as a nicely tuned K series :p Oh, and it's bloody german.

    Coolant Leak

By the way teddy, not sure if i've got the right person but I think i may have purchased my CB aerial mount off ya about 3 and half years ago? We met up just off the A500, i drove over from Crewe and you showed me the best way to route the cable through the door!

    Coolant Leak

No, he's definitely got the K series in mind. The outlet from the coolent bottle he's talking about goes through the inlet manifold and directly into the head. This is where the inlet manifold usually leaks, however it could be something as simple as a split in the pipe or the pipe clamp not on...

    Whining noise????

It does sound like IRD to me. First step might be to drain the IRD oil and see what sort of state the old oil is in.

    starting problems 1.8 (tried search)

Locate the throttle body, there will be a small pipe coming from the front of the body before the throttle butterfly (if i remember rightly) and this goes round to the front of the manifold where the pipe will go back in behind the throttle butterly. It will also have a plug on it. This is the...

    Whining noise????

Can't ever remember hearing of a clutch whining on a freeby when it was on its way out. Have heard many of times that the IRD can whine though. Let me guess... it's only when you're engine braking?

Very happy with the new radio I fitted today .

HK amp? Not all freebys, infact hardly any have a seperate amp. (I think only the freebys with the factory harmon kardon sub in the cubby hole had the amp).

    Door replacement

The bumping from the back when changing gear will be one of two things. Either the bushes holding the rear diff have gone... or the bolt holding the subframe to the body has pulled through its square tubing. If you get on your knees at the back of your freeby with a cro-bar, and poke it...
