Thanks, that might be it. It was absolutely baking across France, and the car had obviously cooled down before I started it again. Hope it's easy to get to as i currently have a slipped disc and dont relish the thought of bending double or twisting too much.

there was like a rusty colour smoke, but only wen i tried to put my foot down on 'full' accelleration to try and get up the speeper hills. I'll check the hoses and look for damage, what i cant get is that once we had stopped for nearly an hour, it worked perfectly after that all the way home.
