Changing brake pads on a Disco 2

Oh yes, of course!!!! What a fool!! I forgot on L/Rovers, the threaded bolt is on the hub and not a separate bolt. But could I use the exposed thread to help get the locking nut off, thread something down it?? I will use the locking wheel nut that is currently one of the 3 holding the spare...

Changing brake pads on a Disco 2

Many thanks, but any idea what the thread running down the inside of the wheel nut is for? (the wheel nut and not the key) I took a regular wheel nut off of my wifes car to see if it would screw in and then I could turn that, but it was just too thin.

Changing brake pads on a Disco 2

O, ok. I get lights coming on all the time!! The other day the amber suspension light (the one with the disco outline and two arrows at the back) and audio chime came on. I stopped, turned off the ignition, restarted it and all was ok in the world. Land Rover electronics eh!!??

Changing brake pads on a Disco 2

Many thanks for the great advice, I'll buy the bits of kit i'm missing (axle stands and clamps) and give it a go this weekend. One drama already though. Thought i'd take a wheel off just to check the condition of the calipers/bolts etc and the bloody locking wheel nut key (the one with 2 pins...

Changing brake pads on a Disco 2

Hi Is this an easy job and could I do it myself?? I have a basic understanding and small amount of ability!! And, if I needed to replace the discs, is that a DIY job as well? Many thanks

    Discovery 2 Central Locking Problem

Mine (51 plate) has just started doing the same thing! At the moment I have to unlock the drivers door using the key. My plan is to strip the door down and lub everything to see if it's just a sticking catch or something. When I use the key fob I can hear the motor, electrics etc working inside...

Discovery TD5 - Passenger Rear Window Leak (not alpine!)

Mine is exactly the same and the same window, I thought it might be the frame distorting slightly? The window isn't dropping at all but If I push 'up' on the window button, the window will always move a fraction. I've had a look at the seal and it seems ok. I do know the frames are...

    Disco TD5 ?

I have a 51 plate TD5 ES manual (7 Seater) and I love it. The value of it has completely dropped (which would be very annoying if I wanted to sell it!!) but does mean you should be able to pick up a bargain!! I bought it nearly 3 years ago with 60,000 miles on the clock, it now has 80,000 and...

    Flat spot in acceleration

I have a TD5 that had a flat spot. I was told it would need a new Air Mass sensor (£95). I read a suggestion, on this forum, that spraying the sensor with electrical contact cleaner would sort the sensor out. Yesterday I bought a can from Halfords (£4.99), sprayed some on the sensor, let it...

    TD5 air suspension height sensors

aaahhhhhh, I see!! I think i'll stop messing around and just replace the damn air springs!!

    TD5 air suspension height sensors

Am I doing something wrong?? When I jack the rear wheels, (at the correct place on the arm) the suspension deflates to match the jack coming up, so when I take the wheel off there isn't much suspension bag to see, to spray the soapy water on!! HELP!!

    TD5 air suspension height sensors

Ok, i'll give that a go and get back to you. Thanks for the advice.

    TD5 air suspension height sensors

if I raise the TD5 up to its highest setting and leave it overnight, it will still be up at the same height in the morning. If I leave it at normal height, 50% of the time it will have sunk down to the bottom by morning (or after only 3-4 hours). Both sides are even, it isn't leaning one way...

    TD5 air suspension height sensors

Quick question. Can I change the ride height sensors myself or is it a LR job? Do they need calibrating? After a week of different tests I have decided my air suspension isn't leaking (as sometimes it stays up all the time over night) so it must be the sensors. Comments please!

    TD5 air suspension problem!!!

I just spent the previous week working on the coast, this involved driving through deep sea water puddles all day for 5 days, with no way to wash the sand/salt off. I dont imagine that will have helped?? Perhaps speeded up some corrosion on a pipe? I'll check the valve block and see what happens.

    TD5 air suspension problem!!!

Is the block valve under the passenger seat or under the car, on the offside? I'm going to buy a Haynes manual tomorroow, that way I can really mess things up!!

    TD5 air suspension problem!!!

Any improvements?? mine has just started doing the same thing!! For the first time ever i went out to it on Sat morning and both sides were down to the stops. I started it up and it rose (evenly) back up and was fine for the rest of the weekend. Then this morning, the same thing! i think it...

    spigot bearing or release bearing

Many thanks for the advice, i can make the noise stop by either putting the disco 'fully' in gear or by taking it completely out of gear. If i try and do it half way, it whines. At least i now know it's not going to suddenly fail!!
