Strange noise when turbo spools up first couple of times

Oil filter is about 1 year and 4k miles old. I'll check what you suggest at the weekend.

Strange noise when turbo spools up first couple of times

My TD5 has recently been making a somewhat odd noise when the turbo spools up the first couple of times after starting the truck. By the third or fourth time the turbo spools, it sounds pretty normal again. My current theory is that the turbo is not fully lubricated initially, which is why the...

    Darkside uprated intercooler for TD5

At half the price of an intercooler from a better known brand, it is fairly tempting. I've got a stage 1 Alive remap on the truck currently, and it goes pretty well already, which is why I'm still on the fence. There's no way I'd bother to pay close to £500 for an updated intercooler plus...

    Darkside uprated intercooler for TD5

I've not done anything yet. I'm in no rush, and am not 100% sure if I'll bother upgrading it at all anyway.

    Darkside uprated intercooler for TD5

I've just stumbled across an uprated intercooler from Darkside Developments and wondered if anyone had any experience with it. On the face of it, it has the potential to be an absolute bargain...

Earth problem means third brake light doesn't work

It turns out that cleaning the earths on the transfer case did not actually fix the problem - I guess I just got lucky when I tested it. I've spliced a new earth from the loom on the rear door to one of the hinge bolts. This has definitely done the trick, and the brake light is brighter than...

Earth problem means third brake light doesn't work

The thought occurred to me that a couple of extra earth points wouldn't go amiss. A job for another day...

Earth problem means third brake light doesn't work

I had another look and tracked it down to dirty contacts at the earthing point on the side of the transfer box. Everything is working now

Earth problem means third brake light doesn't work

The high-rise brake light on my TD5 90 doesn't work unless I wire a temporary earth (ground?) from the hinge side contact on the rear window to some other exposed metal on the truck. I've tested all black wires in the rear door, and none of them go to earth. Turns out the rear wiper doesn't work...

How I fixed my TD5 ECU (maybe worth doing for preventative reasons too)

I've not tried this specifically yet. These are on the list for my colleague to check, along with some other components, before we have a go at replacing the the processor as a last resort. Hopefully it won't come to that!

How I fixed my TD5 ECU (maybe worth doing for preventative reasons too)

Small update here, in case it's helpful for anyone... I'm told that a faulty ECU that is not showing any error codes, but that communicates ok with a Nanocom, could mean that the main processor is playing up and needs replacing. A friendly electronics engineer from work is looking at this for...

How I fixed my TD5 ECU (maybe worth doing for preventative reasons too)

I've just had my dodgy ECU checked with a Nanocom, and the results are somewhat unexpected... When it first failed, it was showing Topside Switch Failure and Injectors 1-5 Open Circuit, but this time it wasn't showing any errors at all (except ABS and Aircon, but they were expected)...

The truck runs perfectly with my other ECU, so I think I'll just buy a working one from eBay as a spare
