Liquid gasket/ sealant for exhaust manifold

Good point. 350C is not enough for use there. I'll check out gungum. Thanks

Liquid gasket/ sealant for exhaust manifold

I think I've a slight leak between my exhaust manifold and the head on my TD5. I already had the exhaust manifold skimmed last year and it has been fine for months, but it's developed an annoying squealing noise under heavy load, and I think it may be coming from the gasket. Has anyone used any...

Just replaced my A frame ball joint...

Some good ideas here that may well come in handy when replacing some other bushes in the future. Hopefully very far into the future...

Just replaced my A frame ball joint...

Well, that was a hell of a job! I decided that I'd replace the bushes at the same time too, so had to take the whole A frame off. Every single bolt either had to be cut off with the reciprocating saw or be drilled and the attacked with the air hammer. Then I could not break the taper on the...

    Who is buying these?

I hope they get a galvanized chassis for that...

Question about upgrading turbo on TD5

Assuming I did some mod, such as uprated intercooler or turbo, that gets more air into the engine, wouldn't the ECU pick up from the MAF that more air is coming in and then increase the fueling accordingly, therefore resulting in better performance?

Question about upgrading turbo on TD5

I wouldn't say it is failing, as such. I think I just want an excuse for an upgrade!

Question about upgrading turbo on TD5

My current turbo has some reasonable play in the shaft/bearings, so I'm planning to rebuild it with an uprated hybrid core from Turbo Rebuild. I currently have a "stage 1" remap from Alive on the truck, but no other engine mods. I'd rather not have to get the ECU remapped again, so will I be...

Engine not starting or cutting out

Could be a failing ECU. Do you have access to a suitable diagnostic computer?

    Cutting out td5

I would definitely recommend that you get someone with a diagnostic computer to read the error codes first. You'll need a Nanocom or similar to set a new one up properly with the vehicle too

    Cutting out td5

The short answer is I replaced it.

    Cutting out td5

This happened a couple of times to me too, and then the ECU failed :(

    td5 insurance for 18yo

I think you'll be better off phoning up insurance brokers. Of the ones we've spoken to previously, Adrian Flux were the worst (least helpful and most expensive) and Lancaster Insurance were the best.

    Defender Wheel Arches

I recently replaced one and I used this technique, and it was brilliant

Bike racks, good bad & ugly

I thought exactly the same thing when I first used it - "why can't I get both prongs through the frame?" I wondered. After some Google image searching, I discovered that I was using it incorrectly. Only one prong goes through the frame and the other sits between the fork and the downtube beneath...

Bike racks, good bad & ugly

Oh, you definitely need a numberplate light board with the one I use, and probably for all rear-mounted ones. It's unbelievable how many people you see with bikes on the back with it.

TD5 no start woes...Nanocom RPM while cranking.

I've recently learned that the ECU can be faulty while still behaving as if everything is OK (apart from not starting the engine, of course). It'll communicate with the Nanocom and show no error codes, and the fuel pump will run and dash lights will be as expected, but it will crank all day...

Bike racks, good bad & ugly

I went for one of these, as I have a spare wheel carrier. I'm pleased with it, however, because we have mountain bikes with front suspension, we had to get it modified so that it will only now carry 3 bikes, as there isn't quite enough space between the between the bikes in the standard 4-bike...

Strange noise when turbo spools up first couple of times

I had a look today, and the joint between the turbo and the oil feed pipe is weeping a little bit of oil, but I can't imagine that is causing the noise. However, I think I'll replace the washers to try and sort the leak out anyway. Is it one washer above and one washer below the bolt that goes...

Strange noise when turbo spools up first couple of times

Exhaust manifold was skimmed and most studs replaced last tear. It really does sound turbo-y
