    HDC Problem

There's no sensor to measure pad thickness so it can't be that. Just because you never use the HDC switch doesn't mean that it can't be broken; if anything it increases the chances of the contacts having a layer of oxidisation. I checked the wiring and that was intact so I removed the switch...

    HDC Problem

I had the same on mine. In my case it was the switch itself that was at fault so I took it out, sprayed vast quantities of electrical contact cleaner into it whilst operating the switch and then let it dry out. Worked fine after that.

    Any chance of a link?

    Nuts!

Wheel nuts that is, for 15" steel wheels. My local Landy independent told me that I don't need different ones I can just use the ones from my alloys. Is that right or should I be using different ones?

Will 15" wheels fit my Freelander 1 ?

According to the manual, yes. I certainly hope so 'cause I've just bought a set.

    Egr Blanking Mod

Just bought a black one of these from Ebay. Fitted it today and what a brilliant bit of kit it is. Pulling out of junctions used to be a bit fraught with a tendency for it to bog down but that's all gone now and it pulls beautifully. The only problem that I had was that the strange jubilee clip...

Apologies if I'm being dense here Paul but do you mean that's what you've got on yours at the moment or that you've got a set for sale?

    Annoying noise from blower

No, that's the annoying whine from the passenger seat.

So if I go to 15" wheels (and there's a set on Ebay at the moment going for less than a couple of pints) do I need to buy post 2001 or anything to avoid fouling the caliper?

Don't laugh at me too much ...

Yeah, I saw them on here the other day and them saw them on Ebay today. I had hoped to pick up a set of steel wheels for a lot less though and, no disrespect, but a set that were a lot closer to me failed to go for £135 and if I buy yours for £200 I still need to buy two new tyres as well.

Thanks for the advice Paul, that's sort of what I was expecting. What wheels did you go for? The Freelander wheels I've seen on fleabay were all alloys with 215/65R16 tyres but they all seem to be around the £150-£200 mark. The cheaper ones are all either older alloys that supposedly foul...

I take the point on not going alone where things could get nasty but the lanes I was looking at were, for the most part, driveable by car. I was under the impression that Freelanders were quite capable off tarmac, how bad does it have to get before I need to take someone else to tow me out?

... It's my very first post. As of a week and a half ago I'm the proud father of a 54 plate Freelander Sport. Where I live, just outside Wokingham, I'm lucky enough to have quite a few green lanes and fords so I decided to do a bit of greenlaning today. Now I'm not a complete newcomer to...
