There's no sensor to measure pad thickness so it can't be that. Just because you never use the HDC switch doesn't mean that it can't be broken; if anything it increases the chances of the contacts having a layer of oxidisation. I checked the wiring and that was intact so I removed the switch...

I had the same on mine. In my case it was the switch itself that was at fault so I took it out, sprayed vast quantities of electrical contact cleaner into it whilst operating the switch and then let it dry out. Worked fine after that.

Just bought a black one of these from Ebay. Fitted it today and what a brilliant bit of kit it is. Pulling out of junctions used to be a bit fraught with a tendency for it to bog down but that's all gone now and it pulls beautifully. The only problem that I had was that the strange jubilee clip...

Yeah, I saw them on here the other day and them saw them on Ebay today. I had hoped to pick up a set of steel wheels for a lot less though and, no disrespect, but a set that were a lot closer to me failed to go for £135 and if I buy yours for £200 I still need to buy two new tyres as well.

I take the point on not going alone where things could get nasty but the lanes I was looking at were, for the most part, driveable by car. I was under the impression that Freelanders were quite capable off tarmac, how bad does it have to get before I need to take someone else to tow me out?
