Same here mate, absolutely no snow at all, go 20/30 miles in any direction and you can find it, but nothing at all here. even tonight there is an amber alert for snow close by, but they reckon all we will get is more rain and some sleet!! Still at least we won't suffer from the flooding...

I have similar issues with my 2003 90, I think it is more to do with the cold temperatures and the central locking solenoid freezing up. Probably need to take the door card off, dry it out and give it all a good spraying with oil.

Yes there are better (more expensive) winches available, but for the money, I think the TDS Goodwinch are a good buy. Yes they are made in China, but so are just about all winches, so that doesn't really say much. The Goodwinch's are to their spec, not someone else's and the support/backup...

The other thing to check is a perforated or split windscreen rubber seal.....

Just noticed that the 'Glow Plug' warning light on the dash display (Defender TD5) does not light up when when the key in the ignition is turned to position 2. No idea how long it has been like that for :confused2:, but am thinking that it may have something to do with the battery drain...

Sounds a bit low to me, I can easily get mid 30's from my 03 TD5 Defender 90, again mainly used for short runs.

If I just take the big thick wire off the top of the alternator and place the ammeter probes between the alternator casing and the thick wire, will that not tell me the same thing?? Its just that will be a LOT easier to do as the alternator on a TD5 is buried deep in the engine :(

OK, hadn't considered that...

No defo not battery, if the battery is disconnected it will hold its charge for weeks without dropping any charge .

I am trying to find the cause of a battery drain on my 2003 TD5 defender. I have read a lot about a diode failure in the alternator as being a possible cause, but I am not sure how to test this? I have removed the main cable from the alternator and this made no difference to the battery...
