Box out. No fluids to disturb. Make a cradle for your trolley jack and it slides back and down. I've done both Defender and Discovery clutches that way.

If both the LT77 and the R380 are fitted to the same engine from a Discovery then they are a nut and bolt straight swap. You will have to swap over speedo sender housing and handbrake as they both differ between the two boxes.

Bottom seal replacement only works if the shaft is not worn or scored. It maybe worth tryng if the leak is small and recent, otherwise an exchange recon box is worth the money. From experience I would definately recommend the Adwest boxes.

One of the internal clutch packs is 'stuffed'. I suspect a rebuild is needed.

I made a tool to fit the dust seals. And use a press as this helps apply and even and square pressure which can help. Make sure everything is clean too. I split the calipers ever time. Never replaced the o-rings between the two halfs and never had one fail or leak. It is by far the easiest...

Rebuilding is the way to go. There is a thread over on lr4x4.com in the tech archive; it also includes cleaning and painting the caliper but that is not nessacary.
