    Gear lever bias plate advice

LR Disco 1 1998, R380 type gear box. Have looked at most of the previous posts concerning the wonderful bias plate as mine is holding the gear lever in the 1st - 2nd plane which makes quick changes to third & fourth a bit of a nightmare. It was fine and was replaced by my local LR indie about 2...

air con compressor? can it be used as air compressor?

I LOVE the AC in my Disco and find it essential for keeping the windows clear. The sensor that stops the evaporator icing up failed on mine so I replaced it with a simple time switch that runs the compressor for 30 seconds, with a variable pause of 3 seconds to 3 minutes. This gives me...

Broken down electrical fault series 3, 200tdi engine

Hi Adam, when you say no power to anything, do you mean the car is acting like the battery is flat or just things that are switched via the ignition switch? IE will the side lights work? I know that the switch unit behind the lock barrel on the ignition can be fragile, but is easy to replace...

How long does a cat live?

Get rid of the cat and replace with a normal down pipe, the one on mine also fits a 'fender. Cost about £15 at the time. Whilst you are at it get rid of the EGR as well. Have has no trouble with MOT's for the last five years. You will find that the 300 will suddenly overtake things going up...

    Safari Snorkel + 300Tdi + ABS + 2nd battery

The Jack fits nicely on the offside wing top, if you are wondering what to do with it. You do need to keep the plate it stands on and fix to the top of the wing. Would supply pictures, but still have not worked out how to post them, yet.

    Don't shoot me, but...............

Oh well, it has been some time I was there last, at least I was right with a bird, just not the correct one.

    Don't shoot me, but...............

Thanks to all, changed the existing Delphi for a new Delphi; normal service is resumed. Would love to meet the commitee that designed the engine, which idiot puts injector pipes in the way of the lift pump. It makes a simple job just a little bit harder. Rant over (for now). Boris113. Is the...

    Don't shoot me, but...............

Cleaned sedimenter during last service a couple of months ago. I am fairly sure that I have got the Delphi one on at the moment as the S***part one that was fitted sprang a leak after a couple of weeks. Thanks for the advice; will get spanners warmed up ready for tomorrow!!

    Don't shoot me, but...............

Just need a bit of reassurance as I am fairly conviced I know what is wrong. Vehicle 300Tdi. Yesterday, whilst returning home on the M5 just south of Bristol the old girl shuddered to a halt with no power and would barely tick over. Called out very nice man and she started fine and drove fine...

    Exhaust fumes

As previously posted to you, get the Haynes manual. In the mean time, the exhaust manifold is the big rusty looking bit of cast iron on the pavement side of the engine. It has the Turbocharger integral in it. It gets very hot, so do not touch when engine running. The down pipe is the bit...

    Sun roof glass removal

Try the marine trade. There are numerous hatches available that can be locked and will seal perfectly, the down side is that finding a perfect fit for the sunroof apeture may be difficult. Good idea for a bigger hole, could get a bigger gun up there quickly.

    Changed belts, but still Squealing

I had a similar problem on my Disco 300Tdi. After several belts, both genuine & pattern, changing the tensioner & rebuilding the air-con pump front bearing all were eventually cured by using Continental Belts. Not too sure about the Freelander engine layout, but the 300 Tdi's power steering...

    96 300tdi starting problem

Mine occasionally does this. I, after lots of head scratching, I traced it to the multifunction unit. This seems to be integrated into the car's systems and possibly is something to do with the alarm system. I do have, however, a long peice of metal and hammer; just in case.

    Engine issues

Best suggestion is give it a serious service according to manufacturers schedule & best practice. The get rid of the egr valve (I assume you have a 300 Tdi) the fast running could be that someone has been playing with the injection pump, fairly easy to reset. The 200 & 300 Tdi's are, if looked...

    Whats this?

Drag link:- Used to attach the near side wheel to the steering box. Old (ish) technology not found on most modern cars as they have a rack & pinion system in stead. Steering box slighly better at not kicking back when off roading. Panhard Rod:- French invention, controls the side to side...

    Newbie advice please towing vehicle

300 Tdi or TD5, I personally would not get the V8's, wonderful though they are, as you may suddenly find you are using the Disco rather more than intended. The V8's are superb, but vey thirsty when towing and around town. They are not too dreadful on the open road though. I recently had a...

    Motorway cruising?

Went to the south of France a couple of years ago, gently on the way down and hell for leather on way back (was late for the ferry) used a bit more on way back, but not hugely. From memory it used 1/2 a tank more on way back. I put it down to going up hill all the way back to Blighty.

    Newb questions - sorry

They stopped making the 300Tdi in 1998, so a 2000 model would be probably a Td5. Possibly!!!!
