    Lost lights...

Help! Driving home tonight both my dipped lights flickered then went out. The main beam and all other electrics are working. I checked (changed) the fuses and the bulbs. Any ideas please?

    Threaded!

Of course - wasn't thinking! Anyone know what size and type of thread the drain plug is so I get the right helicoil?

If I remove the bottom cover can I get my fingers (or something less chubby) in there to help get the drain plug out? Will I need a new gasket as well?

Thank Mo. One thing that would concern me after seeing how its done on line is the "tang" that you need to break off at the end. Doesn't seem a good idea to push it into the transfer box.

Thanks Turboman - I tried the "locking moles onto the plug, and pulling hard and turning anti-clockwise at the same time" but to no avail. I'll try again. Off to look for a helicoil insert now..

Tried to change the transfer box oil but have now over tightened the drain plug (didn't think 30Nm was that low!). The plug won't now come out and it just keeps turning either way. Have tried wedging it with a screw driver and using mole grips to get the plug out. So.... 1. Any helpful...

Parting a brake disc for a hub.

Thanks again James, your second method worked in the end although I had to use heat as well.

Parting a brake disc for a hub.

I was hoping to keep both bits - would heating the disc help?

Parting a brake disc for a hub.

Bit of advice please. Just removed my rear (for D90 300 Tdi) brake hub and disc to clean up and renovate then replace bearings and seals. Have removed the 5 bi-hex bolts holding the disc to the hub but can't get the 2 items apart. The other side worked easily. Tried some "gentle" tapping, big...

    Old 300Tdi alternator

The consensus appears to be "wait and see". The new one is a Denso alternator which has good write ups. So into the box at the back of the garage it goes...for now!

    Old 300Tdi alternator

Uprated my alternator to a 100A one - nice & shiny and also charges the battery! What should I do with my old 65A Alternator? I know the brushes are broken (I had to take it apart didn't I?) and probably the regulator. I assume I can replace those parts - is it worth a refurb?

    Engine coolant

That would make sense - does it hold about 2.5 Litres? I ran the vehicle for about 15 mins today and checked levels once it cooled down. All seems to be okay.

    Engine coolant

Thanks James. Did all that and still only got 9 litres in. rad & thermostat overflowing and expansion tank 2 thirds full. just run it up to working temp before checking levels. See what heppens then!
