Originally a 19j, now a 12j. Gearbox still original.

Is anyone aware what model gearbox a 90 from 1990 would have? I'm thinking 77mm but I can't say for certain. When the term "gearbox" is used does that also include the transfer case as well? Thanks.

I also get the oil pressure light at idling when warm, should I leave the thermostat as is until I find out what my oil pressure is to prevent any risk of cooking the engine? Even if left idling for 20mins it never creeps more than halfway. 12J engines refuse to die

Or would new injectors be cheaper...

If that was the case would injector servicing be something a local garage could do or would a diesel shop have to do it.

Just heat time and one crank. Replaced the plugs a while before I did the tappets.

When the engine is warm where should the dial on the temp gauge be pointing at? Mine normally stays at 1/4 way but can point at exactly 1/2 way when really pushed.

So the temp gauge should ideally be 1/2 way and 1/4 way counts as running cold? As for the cracks most of them surround the retaining bolts and can't really be repaired.

What's ram effect?

I sometimes have to do journeys of around 100 miles each way. If the fan stayed on but with he shroud off do you think a 12j would cope? Currently my temp gauge stays at 1/4 way on any journey.

Reassuring news, is anyone aware of a part no for a shroud, I'm only seeing 200tdi and td5 fan shrouds online.

Model 12j, I would keep the fan, just the shroud

This may sound silly but is it ok to run the engine without the cooling shroud on, mines got several bad cracks and the fan sometimes catches it.

Just did my tappets, they were way too tight and the engine sounds quieter and cold starts a lot more easily. However a sound similar to dropping a pin on a floor now comes about at random when driving, there is no rhythm to the sound and no effect on performance. I am quite sure I've done the...

Just did the tappets, clearances were way too tight, motor now cold starting in 10-15 seconds and is much quieter, but sometimes when driving I now sometimes hear a sound like a pin dropping, no rhythm to the sound and it comes and goes irrespective of road/engine speed. Ideas?

Is there a general opinion on the quality of Britpart bits? Are there any other brands that are of a better quality? Thanks
