Yep. According to my info the CDL was a £260 option available between Nov 2002 and July 2003. At £260 I'd have opted for it. I've seen a Td5 stuck with one wheel spinning!

They don't seem to suffer rot like the Series 1. As battenberg says, electrics are the main thing. Just bought my 2000 Td5 and I'm very pleased with it. I bought from a specialist which gives some peace of mind having a warranty!!

£98!?!?!? Jeez! I just bought my Td5, so I'm glad the dealer replaced the broken spare on mine before I picked it up! BTW, I bought it from Roger's of Bedford. They are a specialist, not a main agent.

There's no low ratio light on a Td5 or a 300 Tdi for that matter. The 300 has a diff lock light which comes on when the transfer box lever is pushed to the left. Diff locks were only optional on Td5's after about 2002 I think??

Probably the single white wire off the back of the alternator. The previous owner of my old 300 Tdi had the alternator replaced just before I bought it. Tacho didn't work and investigation found they had forgotten to plug it back in. It's just a spade connector on a thin white wire.

Both my 300 Tdi's managed about 540 miles before the light came on, and my record was 604 with lots of steady long distance runs. I saw it go below the 500 mile mark when wearing my heavy boots. My last Td5 usually got about 460 but that had a tuning box fitted so I'm hoping the latest one will...

I seem to have a strange spec on the Td5 GS 7 seater I just bought. It's a 2000 W plate and hasn't got aircon but does have ACE. I thought ACE was only available on higher spec models? I bought the car from Roger's of Bedford and just wanted to say what a great company to deal with.

EGR blanking definately. That made a big difference to my 300Tdi. My last Td5 had a powerbox fitted and although it went well I think it affected relaibility and MPG, so I'm not so keen to do that one.........

You won't get much Defender for that money. I'd go for a basic Disco Td5 without air suspension etc. I recently saw a tidy Y plate Td5 S at a specialist dealer for £5.5k so you should be able to get one for alot less than that.

Just to add another possibility. The exhaust manifold gasket squeals if it blows. Mine did and sounded horrible. Would only do it under load tho.........

It was the front fuel pump on mine. The car ground to a halt and refused to restart. You should be able to hear the pump when ignition is switched on as mentioned above. If it is the pump don't go to Land Rover! £240 + VAT!! I got one off ebay for £135 all incl. from MaltingsLR
