Hi. My TD4 (2003) has an issue in that the clutch pedal has been squeaking for a while and now it has started to stick down, particularly if the pedal is held depressed for a short time. I have been looking at the forums and it appears to be that Clutch Master Cylinder that has gone u/s...

    TD4 Crankcase Breather/Depression Limiter VAlve

I have heard that there is an alternative Crankcase Breather filter/ Depression Limiter Valve that does away with the L/R Filter type. Has anyone got one and fitted it and a part number from BMW? Thanks

    TD4 Clutch problem

Thanks for your response Si, I was a little concerned that it could be the clutch or slave cylinder which requires major surgery on both vehicle and wallet! As the clutch pedal has had the creaky sound since March, it looks as though you are spot on. I will order a master cylinder and throw...

    TD4 Clutch problem

Hi all. My TD4 clutch has developed a strange intermittent fault. Sometimes the pedal goes compl, etely and the clutch feels very sharp - in that you move the pedal in and out as it only moves a little, and the clutch bites. If I put my foot under the clutch pedal and pull it up to the normal...

    TD4 Power loss etc

You can have my bloody TD4! Although there is now no whistling noises and no black smoke, there is still a slight lack of power/boost. Sometimes it seems fine, other times it feels as though there is no boost going on.....it usually gives enough to push you back in the seat just a little, but...

Rattle Somewhere Under Car - TD4

Hi. I am something of a L/R virgin but my Freelander had an annoying metallic rattle/knocking that was intermittent. I found it at the weekend, it was a clip that had come loose behind the engine. It was a clip over a hose fixed to the rear of the engine by a single 6mm screw and it had come...

    TD4 Power loss etc

Thanks Chaser, I will do as you suggest. I will also give it a decent run up and down the motorway in a week or so. I do have a last question.....do you know where I could get an updated CD for the Sat Nav as L/R want well over £100 and I can get a Tom Tom for that! If I can get one cheaper...

    TD4 Power loss etc

Hi all. I got the upper left intercooler hose off completely today and exactly as you all predicted it has a hole in. I duly replaced it with a new one from L/R and put in the new separator and the horrid noise is now gone! Power is back to normal, though at higher revs I still get a good bit...

    TD4 Power loss etc

Hi. As I do lots of miles I do check the oil weekly and so far it hasn't used a single drop since the last service in March, around 9k miles ago. I did check the pipework on the top of the engine but found no splits or loose clips. I will get under it today and check the lower pipe from the...

    TD4 Power loss etc

Hi. I have had a look and all i could really find was that the jubilee clip olding the air feed to the turbo was loose. I tightened it up but it made no difference. I couldn't locate any intercooler hoses, could anyone tell me where to locate them? Cheers. "Experience is something that you...

    TD4 Power loss etc

Hi all. I would be grateful for some guidance here, my 2003 Freelander TD4 has developed a problem. When I accellerate I can hear the turbo spinning up like it is succking in air, the engine is down on power on accelleration also. When I drive, it gets to around 2000rpm and gives a slight...

    TD4 erratic idling

Just to let you know - I put some injector cleaner in a full tank of diesel and after running the car for a good 100 miles the idling came back to normal.....i'll see how long it lasts! Many thanks for your advice.

    TD4 erratic idling

You sir, are a spot on bloke! I took your advice and sure enough when I took each one off the revs dropped and the car stuttered......until I got to number 3 injector which when unplugged made no difference at all! I guess all I need to do now is take it out and get a replacement! Thanks...

    TD4 erratic idling

Hi, I am new to this as I have just bought a 2003 Freelander TD4, which is spot on. I have covered 700 miles in it this week and up until I was almost home it was faultless. As I negotiated a junction and came to a stop the idle suddenly became very lumpy and I could feel it through the...

    TD4 Lumpy idling

Hello everyone! I have just bought a 2003 Freelander TD4 as I have always wanted one but have been put off up until now by the poor name it has in reliability. Whilst researching the Freelander, I was lucky enough to find this site and having read the forums I decided that I would just get one...
