    burning smell at 95mph

That'll be the hole in your pocket burning a wider hole. To be honest, my Disco 2 TD5 doesn't mind doing 70mph, will do 80mph with a bit of "feedback" and certainly doesn't want me doing anything much more, especially for any distance. From memory, 95mph is pretty near the top speed for...

    Cruise control transplant

Yep, it's easy peasy to fit. Or to switch from one to another. The wiring is already in place so it's a case of cutting a hole for the steering wheel switch (use the wheel that's already cut as a guide if you don't buy another kit), then putting the switch on the wheel, in the dash and away you go!

Is this true or is it just rubbish??

My next door neighbour bought a Disco4 but wasn't happy with the fuel consumption, so he had a Mini 850 engine installed. :5bbeatdeadhorse5:

Td5 lack of power under 2500rpm

There's a few reasons for these symptoms and I'd recommend doing a search on here to read relevant threads. You say that the turbo feels as though it isn't kicking in, but perhaps the turbo is kicking in here around 2500rpm and the problem is with the EGR, MAF sensor or.....well, read those...

What should I look for at this price?

I would remember that Disco 2 bodywork always looks good, so have a good peek around the back under the car to see how that's holding up. Even if that looks okay, and it's otherwise okay then I agree with those that say that the price is too high. Looks like a nice car from the photos, but it...

Is this true or is it just rubbish??

Whaddya want? The latest, most up-to-date Disco 2 has seen 8 years of life. If you want reliability go for something small, simple and new. You have to dial into the running costs of a Disco 2 or 1 preventative work, and/or repairs. It's part of the package.

Rear suspension on the TD5, help please

I had an air sprung rear on my previous TD5 that I had converted to coils. I had the choice to put normal or heavy duty springs on. As I rarely tow anything but a trailer/quad bike the normal springs were okay for me. Perhaps you need the beefier springs?

    Transfer box: no low range.

No, they've all got low ratios. They all have hill descent. Some have difflock but many don't, as there's traction control (possibly where you're confused) but due to popular demand, some have difflock as it became an option and some have the potential to have difflock retro fitted. Clear as...

    steering wheel switches....help

I thought that all Disco 2's had steering wheel switches for their stereos. Obviously not. It'll depend on what head unit is there, is it an original or aftermarket. If it's an aftermarket jobbie, odds are it won't work, but some can be made to. I don't think it's as straightforward as the...

    just bought my first disco

The high end audio head unit didn't have an integrated amp. The amp, as discool says lived under the front passenger seat as a seperate unit. If you've got an aftermarket head unit fitted, the amp would likely be defunct and could have been removed. I think there's maybe a bit of wiring for the...

    What would you choose???????????

Defenders are probably better offroad, but it of course depends on the individual vehicle. Without doubt any disco 1 or 2 is much nicer on the road, where I suspect you will spend most of the time. Don't think that you'll be getting a trouble free ride because you're changing from a P38 though...

    Buying a Disco 3

£12,000 will get you on the bottom one or two rungs of the Disco3 ladder. They aren't without their troubles, the most common being the parking brake (EPB). They aren't as good as earlier Discos at the offroad stuff, but to be honest, you'd have to be really in the mire to find that out...

    Disco won't start

Aha, so the battery was only a symptom. Sarcasm duly withdrawn and replaced with an olive branch.

    Disco won't start

If you put jump leads on a battery in a car where the battery is flat, there still likely won't be enough of a kick to start the car. Especially with a dirty big lump of a diesel motor like a Disco's. Either change the battery or leave the leads attached and the donor car running for a bit, then...

    help with buying a disco 2 ?

As with many Disco 2's, the bodywork looks good and straight. I fear some unsuspecting soul will buy it thinking it's a lot better car than it is. The price seems to be around right for an average mileage, lightly used car of it's age.

    help with buying a disco 2 ?

Depends what the engine is like. Depends on what the running gear is like. Depends on what the chassis is like. Depends on what you want it for. Depends if you like the colour. Depends on if the price is right for the thing. Depend on if everything goes wrong a month after you've bought it or...

Rear audio controls in my D2

If you're going to get cruise control, be aware that Land Rover don't sell the bracket to fit the steering wheel switches, but will sell the switches. The kits on ebay include that and instructions, which includes a template showing where to cut the plastic to fit it, making it super easy...

Rear audio controls in my D2

I had them on my first Disco2 but never used them. I don't have them on my current Disco2 and I still don't use them. To be honest, one day I got some earplugs, had a fiddle with them, thought "aren't they great" then never touched them again. I suppose if you regularly use the boot seats...

Advice on buying a used Disco 2

£12,000 will get you the best Disco 2 around and you'll still have £3k plus to spare. £12,000 will also get you an early Disco 3. They are good at what they do, but if you don't need what they do, then you're paying for something that you ain't using. And you do pay. Normal servicing, unless...

    Looking or a td5

Look at all the usual things that you can find on here from people asking similar questions to yourself. Spending the odd hour trawling threads on here will be time well spent. The most important thing to do is to go and look at it as though you're buying a 12 year old car. Because you are...
