just had all the same symptoms,luckily i have a spare td4 and swapped all the affore mentioned parts with no luck,then done injector leak back test and it was one injector got a reconned one and replaced burst into life right away,so id put my money on leaky injector

ive had no trouble with mine,yes its tight on full lock ie in car parks trying to park,and some times the tc light comes on if im reversing tightly backwards up a hill,but my tyres are all wearing at the same rate front and back, and thats normal as the vcu starts to work as the front and back...

the ice and snow was a good test,if you gave throttle a quick jab the front wheels would spin a little then you would feel the car grip as the vcu locked the back wheels,if vcu "siezed" the front wheels wouldnt spin it would just grip. if in large empty icey/snowy car park if you get it right...

if its any consolation just had similar problem thought it was a wheel bearing or something but it was brake pads,must be design of freelander but noise travels through the running gear and makes it sound worse

my 90s got inch lift and i had to reroute tail pipe as the tyres rubbed on it,they are a bit noisy on the road and got plenty grip offroad for the price im not complaining i would recommend them anyway

iv got insa turbo traction tracks 265/75/16 on ma 300 tdi ninety been on for six months now and apart from a slight bit of tramlining(roads are crap here though) they are sound got them of eblag £290 delivered to glasgow hope that helps
