New Diff Fitted - strange noise before I road test!

shouldnt make noise at all,id be very surprised if you take that a run and its not noisy, i presume you are holding the input shaft from turning and turning one of the output shafts?

    Clutch Issue - No Gears!!!

i had a 1.8 petrol that did the same thing, but only in town in stop start conditions,a new clutch slave cylinder/master cylinder kit sorted it,i think the constant in out of the clutch was heating up the old fluid and wasnt as effective,

    diff on the way out

ok cheers,i would still like it rebuilt as a spare,so might get my local garage to do it,i take it even though it is the later diff with the bigger bearings a early diff would still fit ie the drive shaft cv joint will fit into the spline in the earlier unit?

    diff on the way out

as above, when my td4 2002 model was in for its mot i noticed the out put seals on the rear diff leaking oil, drivers side the worse,as i dont always drive it i also noticed a whine whilst driving but thought it was prop bearings but now im not so sure there was a fair bit of movement up and down...

    Handbrake cable

when did you fit the new front tyres? you should always fit four of the same make.and never put new ones on front only,if you only fitting two fit to the rear and put rears on front,if you do a search on here you will see why

    weird vibration

yeh,it looks different, but it was same length and fitted into hub and gearbox ok,but it looks a bit heavier duty,so may be causing the vibration, think i will just get the right one and see if that cures it

this may have been stupid, but my brothers 1.8 freelander s reg 1998 2 door model had a worn inner cv joint ,i had a 2001 2 door td4 that i was breaking,so he took drive shaft from that and it fitted,i have just put the prop shaft back on with new bearings, and there is a bad vibration now from...
