Well, the coolant must be going somewhere. Does it blow clouds of steam out of the exhaust? Does the cooling system pressurise as soon as you run the engine? Any misfire? If you top it up, how quickly before it overheats and does it blow the coolant out of the expansion tank?

remove nut/washer holding retaining plate for inter shaft on t/f box (if you ghavent already!). rtemove rear mainshaft bearing housing. Pull out inter shaft. Think there is a special tool that grips it but big screwdriver and a thump will usually do it.
