Scheduled Service - What is involved? What can I do myself?

As for Oils and the LR recommendations, it sure is time-consuming to figure out in terms of locally available variants - none of the recommendations are available here. Anyways, my decisions: Engine - "Use only 5W-30 oil meeting Land Rover specification WSS-M2C913-B" Locally this translated...

Scheduled Service - What is involved? What can I do myself?

I ordered the 'premium' kit for the filters - which is apparently the original LR spec parts/manufacturers ... :)

Fob programming - what are the options?

Mechanic at Dealer: "maybe we can do it, sometimes these things are tough" Wants £75 either way - if he fails I still pay Weeee! o_O

Fob programming - what are the options?

I'm hoping that remotekey will just send the the doo-hickey - I'm happy to pay a 'rental premium'. The local dealer is: Slow Reticent with very low motivation to share technical details Layers of bureaucracy/phone-menus/hold music/blah But at least they're costly. I'm scoping out local (NZ)...

Fob programming - what are the options?

The plastic case has different details, which makes me unhappy face, but in turns out the PCBs inside have the same numbers on them (53873753D) - if that doesn't mean they're the same unit then the designers are d@#kheads ;) As I understand it, I have a 10AS.

Fob programming - what are the options?

Ok, good to know... Actually, just double checking: that's a used fob/plip from one vehicle being programmed for another ? (That is where past searches on the internet weren't so clear - when people say 'new', the distinction between 'new to my car' ('...and used') and 'new and unused' isn't...

Fob programming - what are the options?

Gidday, LUCAS 17TN / KHH17TN - you know it, looks like this: I have a 2008 Defender 110 PUMA with an original fob, but I want another at the ready, so bought a used one off ebay (i.e. not 'new', and never used with my auto). The local 'Key Dr' says programming cannot be done. Researching...

Scheduled Service - What is involved? What can I do myself?

Ordered the firstfour premium service kit, magnetic plugs, and brake pads ... Need some axle stands, brake cleaner, copper grease, grease, and oils/fluids next - will source locally :) For what it's worth, I'm looking forward to it - might do it out on the street near the drain, therefore: I...

Scheduled Service - What is involved? What can I do myself?

Basically, any advice on any of the elements appreciated - but especially Defender specific info. Other facts/processes can be found in general car maint web searches :) Thanks for the input so far - good stuff

Scheduled Service - What is involved? What can I do myself?

Unless I'm mistaken I'm hearing, yeah, it's worth doing yourself Good. I should have noted it's a PUMA/tdci - which may complicate things somewhat (?), it certainly complicated the clutch hydraulics issue I had recently. Anyways, I'm about to order some toys from firstfour.co.uk - they also...

Scheduled Service - What is involved? What can I do myself?

Gidday, Defender with 100,000km on the clock and according to the previous owner it's now due for a service. I'm wondering: What is involved in a normal scheduled service? How important is it to go to someone who specialises in LR/Defenders? (as opposed to a cheaper general mechanic) I'm...

Hi-Lift Jack wont jack down - WTF?

Sorry, missed these replies... Well, it was bent well into the range of 'bend it back and it'll be f$cked'... Took one wee tap with a hammer afterwards to break it proper. New one on the way from firstfour.co.uk (the retailer, in this case)

Hi-Lift Jack wont jack down - WTF?

Plenty of weight on the jack as a whole each time - almost had a rear wheel off the ground... I'll straighten it and try lifting something more relaxing (but heavy enough to make it all happen).

Hi-Lift Jack wont jack down - WTF?

Yeah, it was hard to reverse engineer in its faulty state. Theory is that the plate thing with the angled 'cams' that slides up and down, it won't push out the pin enough to start the next iteration. Actually, it almost looks like it caused the bend in the first place.

Hi-Lift Jack wont jack down - WTF?

As per title - I googled it, lot's of forums suggesting that it needed lube on the pins, however, fun fact: It's brand new - still had factory lube on it. WD40 applied anyway - still wont go down, it'll just rock up and then down the same distance for each stroke, no pin action. It's an...

Another Tyre Thread - width considerations for on road driving with MT tyres

I looked into the legal side of things, and of course the info came via my insurer - so, in NZ any tyre that changes the manufacturers recommended diameter (31.7" for the 235/85) will need modification certification (the 'LVV cert'). And once you modify, this needs to be communicated to your...

Another Tyre Thread - width considerations for on road driving with MT tyres

Interesting regarding the insurance - I'm already running tyres that aren't standard ... I'll opt out of 255 - mainly due to the fact that all the indoor parking lots I currently use with my 225/75 are (blimmin) close height wise already. I might even need a recheck before I wedge myself into...

Another Tyre Thread - width considerations for on road driving with MT tyres

Hello all, Due to a stupid fitment on a Defender new to me (225/75!) I'm getting a new set of tyres. Although I do most of my driving on road, when I do go off I've really appreciated the extra grip the current (but small) MT tyre affords compared to an AT. I've only once lost grip on road in...

Help me diagnose a persistent clutch hydraulics issue - mechanics?

Looking at the parts I see some more points of possible failure: 16 is the flex hose 21 is a 'damper' (suspicious??) 18 and 19 are both listed as 'adaptors' - although 19 is the bleed valve also Should I also replace these other elements? What does the 'damper' do... Usually I'd expect...
