    Have i got a ringer

Could you not just stamp a new number in? After checking it isn't stolen, or weld a patch over the number, many defenders need patching there anyways. Suppose its good that the mot fella was checking, not so good for you though.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Sorted out steering controls and microphone for new head unit, although not today but yesterday had fresh tyres all round and tracking set, track rod adjusters were stripped and cleaned up to keep them from seizing should make life easier in future, britpart armrest was also fitted yesterday...

    All very odd?

Mine had exactly the same symptoms, it was water getting in the turbo vent filter. I routed the pipes so they were higher up and put a fresh filter on, I thought I might have to change the solenoid but it was fine it spluttered a couple more times and has been fine since.

I'm planning on making a mechanical replacement for the VCU!

Can't afford a newer freelander, mind haven't looked at the prices of these clutch things, just like the idea of it

I'm planning on making a mechanical replacement for the VCU!

Wey just wondering. Coz a few folk remove the prop to avoid the slight advanced wear rate even a good vcu gives, this would do that and mean that when it was locked in it would only be as bad as the state of the vcu, only downside having to machine and mod the clutch into the system :p

I'm planning on making a mechanical replacement for the VCU!

Would a twelve volt version of this be suitable? If you mounted to on the rear half of the prop it would still have the vcu to take some of the strain when engaged so it didn't damage anything and it would mean you could flick a switch instead of having to remove the prop for the...

    front sub frame

I didn't touch the track rod ends and had plenty of room to get the subframe & ARB assembly out and back in one piece. I did not touch the wishbone ball joints either....just left the wishbones hanging on them. Aye I never thought of doing it like that as i've normally had jobs that were...

    front sub frame

Put on lift, remove wheels, remove undertray, disconnect bottom of antiroll bar links, disconnect track rod ends (not completely necessary but can help), dissconect bottom ball joints, take out front bolt from bottom engine tie bar, support the subframe with gearbox stand or similar, remove two...

    Landy for work?

I recently seen a transit 4x4 I assume it was a factory fit thing, but not sure it would be best of both worlds? I know what you mean about a landy being good for getting interest, at the garage if you ask someone if they like their land rover they can spend ages telling you about it, hardly...

    simple looking head unit

Happy new year to you all! The head unit recently packed in on the freelander and the passengers are getting sick of my singing, could anyone reccomend an aftermarket one that looks fairly standard as I can't stand the flashing lights and awkward buttons on most aftermarket ones, its an 02 td4...

    more advice please

I was looking at the same problem on mine and it was a build up in all the ball joints that make up the linkage, if mine gets really bad I might try bodging by drilling a hole right through and putting a bolt or pin through, however this might not be possible depending on the way the joints move

    Tailgate window demister problem

I managed to solder the lug back onto mine but it took a few attempts, give the lug and remaining solder on the screen a light emery to clean them, also there is stuff to repair small breaks it the element on the screen, its applied using a brush similar to a tipex brush. Like mat1295 said it...

rigid pipe between MAF housing and engine

Could cause a bother with it getting more air than the sensor is reading, however I would expect it only to affect it when higher revs or higher load, I would get it plugged into a computer, it will be able to show a real time display of what the sensor is reading, does it put a Iight on?

    Gateshead Warning

There was a set of headlights nicked out a d3 at brockesbushes a while back how they managed to get them out I don't know, unless they'd left it unlocked.

TD5 - Battery replaced but won't turn over

Can you hear the fuel pump working when it fails to start? If you don't it could be a faulty pump or power supply to the pump, you say it stops when it gets below half full, I've seen it before where the pipe on the pump splits halway up so doesn't suck in fuel when it's too low. And also the...
