It's official, my P38 is properly sulking. BECM now?

Normally door locks would be a microswitch thing. Unrelated but unfortunately for you, coincidental. The problem is inside the driver's door lock mechanism. Its just worn and flops around. Now normally this happens when driving (as it gets jiggled around). That its doing it parked up suggest...

    Urgent help needed

That's not supposed to happen with 18"s. Probably are missing the bump-stops. You've really only two options, lift it onto blocks as people have suggested or now that its at your relative's house if it can stay there, start to work on the whole thing. Lots of threads in here, many excellent...

    Engine dying, no idle

Cleaned up stepper motor and various little inlets and pipes around it. Tbh was a bit sooty but not terrible. Seems to have worked though, took her out for a drive, it did happen again once but seems to be behaving now. Had plugged in the Hawkeye, nothing amiss. There is however a little tin cap...

    Engine dying, no idle

I thought it might be a cylinder missing when it happened but she seemed to drive smoothly enough. Will check IACV, thanks!

    Engine dying, no idle

She's been good for months the old girl. Yes the washer pumps packed in, then later the horn and a couple of other electric niggles but nothing major. Then today made just a short trip, she was fine on the way out but on the way back, take your foot off the accelerator and she can't find idle...

    Downgrading the electrics

I was just pondering: why wouldn't it be possible to downgrade the electrics to not need a BECM? There are plenty of older cars (ie P38 age) where the HEVAC, windows, central locking, radio etc can all be standalone systems. Lights and horn too, through relays. Power assisted braking, TCS and...

    Search works

Use the search fxn ppl! I just found clues to solving two issues thanks to the collected wisdom of the ancients. It works you lazy buggers (yes, you know who you are!). :D

    P38 Brake fluid leak

Crikey take the body off a P38? The garage is thinking of later RR Sports and so forth.

    P38 grill refresh???

I went silver and black. Sprayed it black first and then hand striped a matt silver on the "leading edges"of the slats just to give a bit of a lift. I think it looks great.

    Engine swap

:hysterically_laughi` but wait.. look... its come out of a 4x4 and all!

    Engine swap

Apparently the petrol engine in the new Porsche 918 is a 4.6 litre V8. That makes 612 horsepower. Reckon it would fit in a P38? :)

    What is this silver box?

Ah, thanks chaps. Yes cruise control is fitted but of about as much use as my appendix. Driving conditions are such that it has NEVER been used. I fear though that if I took it out like my appendix the BECM or something else would sulk?

    What is this silver box?

There was a chattering vibrating noise coming from inside the dash while driving. Have identified it as this box, touching it with a finger is enough to damp the vibration. Its bolted on tightly enough, the bracket itself is flimsy. Wondering what its for and can I nix it? No comments on...

    Range Rover decal / letters

That would be amazing! If you do we should make this thread a sticky. Could you mention the vertical position too please? Such as bottom of letters is how far above the bonnet lip edge etc. Cheers! :5bcheers2:

    Range Rover decal / letters

Just a quick question, is there actually a difference between front and rear sets? I assume there is as they are sold separately but I can't see it! And would a gentle soul please measure the placement of the letters (vertical distance from tailgate or bonnet lip, horizontal centre point, gap...

    New purchase?

No major issues specific to that year. There were a few on the earlier ones that were sorted by 2005. Just the usual checks you'd do for any used car should be fine. Its not a very friendly car for home mechanics so I hope you have a tame specialist in the neighbourhood. Like all LRs it'll needs...

    Worst cars to buy used

This is a US List, LR wins 2 spots. 4 if you include Jag and the Lincoln LS which is also a Jag. "Electronics that are apparently the spawn of Beelzebub". :p Yahoo! Oh and the 10 best? 8 out of 10 are made by Toyota / Lexus. http://members.wolfram.com/nickl/QualityIndexRating.html
