The single flash of the trailor light is NORMAL. Yes I knew that and was just telling Bluehaze its a factory fit idea not a bad wiring job.

The other interesting issue is that when you push the indicator stalk the trailor light, on the instrument panel, flashes once; there is a tow bar with electrics (looks like a diy job). I'm going to isolate the trailor electrics tomorrow to see if that is the problem. ANy thoughts or...

Dont bodge a fix on your breaks PTFE tape is not made to work under the pressure your break system will load it too. You already know stopping is more important starting.

T55 torx bit for the gearbox filler plug, MTF-94(I think its in the shed but its to late to go look) for the gear box and ep 80-90 for the diffs. You will need some kind of pump to fill the gear box.
