    clunk going into gear

Hi James, Thanks for coming back to me. The oil I drained out was red but slightly dirty. The oil I put in was new ATF Dextron 111 plus a litre of Lucas gearbox fix (Datatec's Snake Oil) If you mean I put the new oil in too quickly, then I suppose that is a possibility as I was sort of...

    98 dse radiator split!

When mine went I replaced the rad, water pump, belt and tensioner, also the stat. Buying an aftermarket stat was a mistake and soon changed it for a genuine one. When it continued to overheat I fitted a Kenlowe fan, still overheated! Later replaced that with a new viscous fan and had no more...

Well, thanks for all those helpful comments chaps. I must admit, the search facility did let me down a bit, still, maybe I will just stick with the Rangie after all.

    biodiesel

I am currently driving a P38 on biodiesel and thinking of changing it. I had a 300TDi previously and it run great on biodiesel but it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a good, solid 300TDi Disco and 300TDi classic rangies are rare as rocking horse poo. So I am considering a TD5...

Finally got my replacement accumulator from Island 4x4. £97. Local supplier £162, no contest!! Fitted it today and it has made a huge difference. Next job is to change the brake fluid but that will have to wait till we get back from a trip to see the Mother in Law (mugger superior) who is...

    Extended charge time

Checked pump time charging accumulator this morning. TC light out at about 34 secs and pump stopped at 49.8 secs engine not started. Checked faults, showed 'Brake Light Switch' failure. Checked brake lights and they are working. Pump does not seem to start on every application of the brake...

    Extended charge time

Thanks wammers. I am going to check the time lapse again in the morning. However, I am leaning towards replacing the accumulator anyway. I suspect it might be the original and the car is 13 years old. So, might as well change it now as in the near future.

    Extended charge time

Was around 34 secs last time a checked, I will check it again in the morning. I must admit I was a bit concerned when it showed an ABS fault 'extended charge time'. I will have another look tomorrow. Cheers Druim.

    Extended charge time

Very low pedal first thing in morning or after car has been parked a long time. ABS pump running too long. Takes quite a long time for the TC light to go out and a little longer for the pump to stop. Pump runs for short periods (2/3 seconds) on occasion when braking. My initial thoughts are...

When I fitted a new in-tank fuel pump I used canyons hole in the floor method. I did not clean the tank out at the time but I did have problems and subsequently opened up the hole in the floor and cleaned the tank out and it was full of ****. In my case it was the fact that I run on...

    Tickover problem ?

Wammers is right, most likely a sensor. I had a similar problem I found when cleaning out the inlet manifold. The multiplug/cable to the Needle Lift Sensor on injector 4 had become loose, almost disconnected, when I pushed it back into place it seemed to solve the problem. I have attached a...

    Tickover problem ?

I had a similar problem last year and after much head scratching and discussion (and confusion) I decided, on advice from a member on here, to block the egr. Around the same time I had discussed flushing the intercooler and after some advice from wammers, I went ahead and flushed the...

    abs pump

I do most of the work myself (should have done this time ) I only take it to a garage when I don't have the kit to do it, eg a press to do the radius arm bushes. Anyway, failed the MOT on brake pipes and radius arm bushes, so I bought the stuff, put in the back of the car and took back...
