Is this in the under seat fuse box?

Have had this problem on my TD5 and it is usually the solenoid. (Tap with a hammer usually sorts it out temporarily!) Don't have any experience re a 2.25 petrol engine. No doubt those with the knowledge will help you out further.

Thought it was just me that had that problem! Quite scary sometimes, drivers door opening as you bump along.:eek::eek:

Which vehicle? which engine?

Possible earthing problems? Check usual culprits, battery, engine and ECU earth.

Could be wrong fuel pump? Pump for 90 and 110 have different senders.

Fuel related and/or injector seals, wiring harness, oil in ECU plug.

The starter relay for TD5 pin out as follows:- Pin 30, brown/white from the 60amp fuse, 87 goes to starter motor (brown/red). 86 is from the ign switch to the relay coil, white/red, and 85 goes to the alarm control unit, black/orange, presumably to an earth from this unit. Hope that helps...

Sounds like a corroded earth? Do the lights work on full and/or dipped beam? Does need the fully charged battery, hopefully you still have access to that to get you running.

Given what you have put your engine and battery through, how is your battery charge? The battery needs to have a decent charge and cranking capacity. Have you tried charging and/or jump starting? Just re-read initial posts, you have been re-charging battery, I would only add that you should...

How old battery? get it checked.. Note how many threads here start "thought battery was ok.... but it wasn't" Land Rovers need healthy batteries!!

Looking again at wiring diagrams for the 12j engine up to 1986, and for those from 1986-91 the lights are individually earthed and not by a common earth. As above check the bulbs and the supply to these bulbs, so if there are a few bulbs not working, earthing would not be the immediate suspect.
