TD5 Discovery II HGF (Head Gasket Failure)

On the current theme, I have just suffered the same HGF, also caused over pressure in cooling and punched a hole through the radiator, (not in the best of nic anyway!) Have been recovered to where I am temporarily working, but 100 miles from home. Fortunately have a fairly comprehensive tool kit...

    Defender TD5 Windscreen wiper motor

Suspect the large gear wheel had a flay spot where the cam for the park position switch is. Think it jammed there. The actual cable to the wiper arms is well greased and moves freely

    Defender TD5 Windscreen wiper motor

Went to fit a new wiper motor, just out of the box. Thought it would be a simple disconnect the wiper arm cable from old motor then attach it to new motor. What I did not realise until I took the cover off the actuator arm in the motor casing, was that the new motor did not include the large...

    110 TD5 Fuel problems?

Went to go on long trip yesterday cruising at 60 -70 then all power lost, never to start again. Piggy back home on top of a nice yellow lorry. Looks like fuel problems. Was not getting any pressure going into fuel regulator. Removed fuel pump nothing obvious. Checked the low pressure return and...

TD5 Injector seal change, now it wont start

Very odd indeed! Can only suggest that you check the injectors are properly seated and torqued correctly. Same with rocker shaft. Pretty obvious, sure you have done that At a loss otherwise. Good luck!

110 rear storage conversions - pics?

Looking to convert rear seating area in county spec 110 into a flat bed with storage underneath. To be used as stowage for mountaineering gear plus a flat area for two to sleep. (Don't worry, my son has hi-spec sleeping bags so the cold will not bother him!) Rear seats have already been stripped...

TD5 Injector seal change, now it wont start

Ok I give up. Been having trouble starting first thing in the morning but OK rest of the day. First start always clouds white smoke. Decided to change injector washers and seals. Done this before no problem. This time, it did restart but ran very rough, lots of white smoke and died after 15...

    Intermittent starting problem

Sure it's not the solenoid? Has happened to be before. Usual cure, undet the motor hit starter with hammer or suitable heavy instrument! If it then starts, you need a solenoid repair kit. Coppers off of eBay.

    TD5 Gearbox Filler plug

Have previously posted on this issue and still not resolved! Determined to overcome this, so spent a lot of time today taking off the transmission tunnel housing and the umpteen rusted in screws that hold it, Can now get easy access to the plug. T55 socket does not grip, plug rounded internally...

    Gearbox oil change Td5

Hi SF thanks for the reply. Did try taking out the 4 bolts with the gear lever but only gave access to the selector shaft. No way through to gearbox. Think your pic is the Lt 777 though, mine is the R380 ie the transfer lever is behind the gear lever nearest cubby box. Have not tried heat yet...

    Gearbox oil change Td5

Having tried unsuccessfully to remove the gearbox oil filler plug, I am desperate to get the oil changed in the gearbox. Latest idea is to remove 4 bolts round the gear selector and pour the oil in that way. Question, if I remove the selector are any springs going to jump out at me or is it...
